By installing the replacment K&N air filter panel what sort of performance gains would be expected, and in the real world are they noticable?

kenl is absolutey right. Many claim to get extra power from performance filters or induction kits but in real life the gains are minimal to nothing and occasionally less as it depends on the mapping and how much the ECU will adjust other parameters when it finds one paramater (such as more air input) increased.

The Aygo is already quite efficient having VVTi etc so I wouldn't expect any major bottle necks in the induction or exhaust side and therefore whether you put on a better filter, exhaust or get it remapped then you'll be lucky to get noticable gains. Even if you manage to improve the peak figures by 5-10bhp you may well lose driveability and midrange power/torque - this is why race versions of the C1 can get over 80bhp as it's all top end power for track use. Really not much good on the road.

Some on c1/Aygo/107 forums have things like Iridium plugs and performance filters and claim their car feels more powerful but experience tells me it's probably just a bit more responsive/noisy - without checking on a good rolling road it's difficult to say. I reckon the only hope that it can be mappable and that things like filters, exhausts and plugs can work is in the fact the engine is designed to be extremely economic. And even then it would have to be custom mapped to get the best from any particular mods on any particular engine.

By improving things like the brakes and suspension/wheels then you would make the car faster/more fun from A-B. Adding to that a good understanding of car dynamics and learning to drive properly (such as heal & toe and left foot braking) would bring out the best in the little car (and mods) even more. If you want to go fast down a motorway or do the traffic light grand prix ? Buy a faster car.

Kev

heal & toe? i'm portuguese and i am not understanding what you are trying to say with the heal and toe stuff...

I've thought of a way to make my Aygo go faster.... Change the seats!

I've noticed that the Aygo can corner pretty swiftly, but every time I take a roundabout I literally fall out of the seat through lack of lateral support.

Is it just me that experiences this?

No, it's me too! The solution is that we change cars and the problem will be solved as you will get sufficient lateral support from the doors when circling the roundabouts! :driving:

By the way, heel and toe technique is much more difficult here as the heel touches the console..annoying ! :ffs:

lol. I had thought that a left-hand drive one would be better for roundabouts.

Yeah i get it the same, the seats don't really hold you in at all, anyone replaced their seats?

With the airbags in the seats it's not easy to change. Wthout the airbags..., the French law does not allow you, as it is homologated with.

Whats the point in having the Aygo + and replacing the seats. You pay for the extra airbags in the seats. The only other bonus is the remote central locking and electric windows.

I wont change the seats, i bought the Aygo Sport, for the alloys and fog lights, the seats arnt really that much of an issue. But they could have been better

Noticed they put different seats on the Aygo no-doors motor show thingy, wondered if somebody fell out ? ;) How about sharing them with your customers Mr T?

do a remap with induction and exhaust mods shoud get you up to about 90bhp

And where do I go to get one of these re-maps?

Nothing significant. It would be louder, so it may feel faster, but air filters just don't make a difference on their own. I think realistically you haven't really got a good base for making your current car faster. If you want to be going a bit quicker you'd be much better off selling your aygo and buying something that is quicker to start with.

Have a look here:

Heal & Toe Explanation

Ahh my website.

When i test drove an Aygo i remember it being very hard indeed to heel and toe due to the massive gap between the brake and the accelerator. I think in this instance you would definately need to put a pedal set on, but if thats the case, make sure its a drilled and bolted set rather than those daft clamped on ones.

Whilst heel and toeing will make a driver quicker into corners, this is just but one aspect of fast driving and essentially track technique. Steering properly (ie keeping your hands on the wheel at quarter to three rather than shuffling) makes a massive difference to how smooth how you are.

Hi all

correct me if I'm wrong , but the aygo clutch

will only take a small increase in power -

before thinking of a power increase , think of

what will transmit that power to the road :crybaby:

both clutch and gearbox will only take a small increase in power

d-declutching will kill the gearbox even quicker

under hard acceleration the front dampers

arn't up to much either - they are only designed as a shopping trolly :crybaby:

If you want power , why buy a Aygo - C1 - 107 ???

the amount you spend on hotting-up your city bug

would be better spent on a faster car

city bug is designed for econimy

all only my opinion

but when your gearbox does a striptease don't cry here !!!

has anyone heard of the gearbox faults ???

:yahoo:

It's true that the clutch and gearbox will be designed to take a maximum amount of power and torque but the parts should be over-engineered enough to take a mild power increase otherwise they would be failing all the time. Obviously I don't know the figures maybe someone does otherwise you can only speculate on how much/little power will cause this to happen.

It depends on how far you want to go, yes the Aygo/C1/107 is a supermini and isn't a performance car so you can't expect too much, but there's nothing wrong with a small power enhancement to make the car more enjoyable to drive. Lots of people do it with all sorts of cars.

how about 10-20% increase - its not alot but when you think you are starting with only 68bhp and a light car it could make all the difference

Precisely! Even 10% would give the car an extra kick without putting too much undue pressure on the components. I am seriously thinking of getting it done for mine. Not because I want to race around at high speeds and burn everything up, just so that I have a little bit extra there when I need to overtake or to help me not to slow down so much up hills.

The gearbox seem to cope perfect with the turbo put on my car , couldnt say thesame for the clutch tough as it seem to be struggling a bit especially at the quarter mile strip (struggled even before the turbo was fitted when reversing uphill!)! Also i just changed the brake pads (after just a year ) as i was seing eccesive wear on the disc so i tought the pads are worn ! but no they were not wor but they already had eaten 2mm of the disc  so i changed them ! The peugeot agent from where i bought the pads as they are nearly half the price compared to toyota told me 12,000m change brake pads - 30,000m change discs! The Aygo might be a cheap car to buy but not to run!

brake pads = 32 pounds from Toyota (18.74 pounds i bought mine from peugeot with a 20% discount as i work in a parts garage)

clutch kit = 147 pounds (now thats too much for a micro clutch which i think the aygo has!) for this ammount of money i bought the EBC sport clutch kit for my astra 20 16 valve engine !

Don´t seems to be any chips out for this car yet ... but with a chip with higher rev-limit, fatter air/fuel-ratio and and ignition turned forward it would probably get a few extra horsepower. Combined with a non-restrictive exhaust and air-intake it may get a few more. No car is fully optimized from the factory .. it´s designed to work with fuel of much worse quality than we have in europe and so on

True to a point, though these days, manufacturers will want their airfilters and the like to be as efficient as possible, purely because mpg is king. The trouble is without seriously changing the characteristics of the engine, ie cams etc, though power gains are indeed possible they are likely to fairly minimal. Also worth remembering is that an advertised 10% increase is 6.75hp.
