Does anyone know where the Common Rail Sensor connector is on the new Yaris D4D 2006. I've got a new digital type tuning box, and cannot see where to connect!

Diesel tuning guys please help!!

Cheers!

Cost you...

:D

Standing in front of the car with the bonnet open look at the intercooler (sort of toast rack on top of the engine). Under the left-hand end you will find there's a cable and a plug - the plug is almost hidden by the intercooler. You have to squeeze the tab on the lower side of the plug before it will come off.

You shoud find that the cables from the box then just plug into either end

If this description makes no sense then take a photo and I'll draw an arrow on to show you roughly where it should be...

HTH,

Alan

PS let us know how it goes... ;)

Hi,

Alan - I knew you would be the man for the job! I've taken the engine cover off, but am still not sure what connector it is.

I have taken a picture. Would be grateful for further assistance.

Cheers! A beer for you!

PS - if the image doesn't post correctly, it can be found at www.locksolid.co.uk/yaris.jpg

Just an idea, but might be worth doing a search in the Corolla forum as the new 1.4 engine in the new Yaris is the same thats in the current 1.4 diesel corolla

Ooookay - I see the problem! Us Mk1 drivers have the intercooler mounted on top of the engine and yours is - well - naked!

Never mind - it makes the plug location so much easier...

I have used a couple of cable ties to hold the box over the the left and away from the engine. I figure that the electronics/heat combination is best avoided...

Anyhow, hope that helps

Cheers for that matey. All plugged in now and running very nicely. Makes quite a difference off the block and midrange.

I am still testing the various settings on this digital box, which was purchased from a good chap called John Barron. Anyone who has one, careful on the high settings - too much boost in third gear gives a stall and engine management light. Around 6 is a good setting, 8 tops.

Loving the new diesel turbo power!

o yes - and the intercooler for the new Yaris 2006 D4D is located in the bottom-front-right section of the engine bay. Nicely tucked away!

I did a bit of a custom job installing the tuning box - I will post pics soon for you to see!!

John has had a bit of custom from some of us over the past few months (sorry I still en't got around to replying to your e-mail :ninja: ) and the new digital boxes do sound far easier to set than my older analogue one.

I think I stilll have another couple of turns to go... :D

Glad it fitted okay.

PS you do realies your fuel consumption will suffer a bit until you get over booting it from every roundabout. Mine is still suffering...

The fuel consumption is around 52MPG even when booting it. I do like the extra power, and hopefully my right foot will settle down after a while.

Still on the number 6 programme at the moment. Will turn it up another notch when I've tested for a bit longer.

It's a crazy little car for a 1.4 diesel!

Dude, you only need to ask the question once. Have a look at my reply in the poor mpg thread.

What does 'Digital' supposed to look like then? The name 'Digital' refers to the box having a digital dial to adjust the power setting ranging from 0 to 9, then A to F. This can be done in 'click' increments by turning the dial.

It's not just a box with resistors - it actually uses a very intelligent method of adjusting power - applying only when the driver needs it (and not at all times). It does this by constantly monitoring the throttle response / Revs of the driver.

These new digital type boxes can add up to 40% more power to the D-4D engine, although Max setting (F) is not wise as it can cause over fueling.

looks as DIGITAL as my left nut. still just a box with resistors in :P

Hi

I have just bought the new 06 diesel yaris and dont understand why someone would want to add tuning boxes etc. "Out of the box" you get 0-62 in 10.7 and upto 70mpg anyway. I am not being critical, but dont really understand the benefits (and the warranty would presumable we invalid as well).

Let's face it you might as well buy a different car if you want high performance like spending 3 or 4k on a Sunday car honda prelude which gives you better stats than a brand new R type? Or an imported Celica SS2 like mine which only cost me £4k:

Would the tuning box also interfere with the "running in" of the new car?

Right... simple answers...

The Yaris is a brand new car which a lot of people want... not a 10 year old car without a warranty. If people then want to slightly improve their car, no matter what it is then they will. If you wanted to improve your celica... you would... and you have... with pink pedals. :P

10 years old, without a warranty, and with pink??? pedals, I would still be seeing your yaris with it's little buzz box disappearing in my back window. Im not critisising the yaris, if I thought they were bad I wouldn't have just bought the new 06 Diesel, only that its a bit pointless trying to make it into something it isn't. What are you hoping to burn off with a tuning box on a yaris, a guy on a zimmerframe????

Erm... incase you havn't noticed I don't have a buzz boxed yaris... and I don't disagree in anyway to buying a quicker car and you may leave me in your back window. (Oh no! :o )

But, the yaris isn't a slow car... compared to comparitive models in it's range it's one of the strongets performing cars (the diesel especially) but if people want to improve it in any way, shape or form with any thing, then they can and they will... doesn't matter if it doesn't turn it into a fire-breathing beast, it's better than standard and people are entitiled to do as they wish. It's not pointless, it's different... if we all did the same it'd be a boring world.

And yes... pink pedals: (Taken from your link)

Errrrm,

Well I suppose if this stops you from getting bored then it's a great idea. Sorry my picture isn't better, photography doesn't thrill me either.

Like the idea of a fire-breathing beast however, but i'll wait until I can purchase a decent milk float first

Adios.....

There's just no pleasing some people...

You dislike photography, you dislike your car, you dislike people who do anything to their cars... may i suggest not posting on a car forum in future? Seems like you dislike the whole idea.
