After a faultless winter my Mk.1B has started to act up now the tarmac is starting to warm up. Luckily though the fault only seems to manifest itself at low speeds. The symptoms are always the same- you approach a junction off the throttle, declutch and change down, but before you can get back on the gas the engine has cut out. If you are still rolling then you can bump the engine back into life or, if not then it starts on the key- instantly. The car then runs normally until the next incident which can be minutes or days away. I was wondering if it could be something as simple as a badly adjusted tickover or mixture (Does anyone know how these should be set up?), or alternatively a fault with idle control, however that is achieved. Has any other member experienced a similar problem, and if so how did you clear it? Any pointers welcomed.

Regards;

Jon

PS: No fault codes logged.

I had this on my car when I first bought it. The engine was shagged and had to swap engines. The new engine also did it - normally after long runs. It wouldn't stall as such just cut out.

It turned out to be the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) located boot side of the throttle body.

The TPS can rotate.

You will need a multimeter to measure impedances between the various pins located inside the TPS and then rotate the TPS untill the correct impedances match up to spec.

The above pictures came from the BGB for the MK1. PM me if you want a copy :thumbsup:

No problems since adjusting the TPS.

Be very careful with the screws on the TB as they round/snap very easily... :rolleyes:
