well mate im not an expert by any means but heres what i do know, rms or root mean squared rating of the 6x9s is important if ya choosing and amp, you probably want an amp with similar rating, also the 2 x 100 watt type of thing means, it can run two seperate Speakers at 100watts and or 1 at 200 i think not sure tho

do you have 2 or 4 6 x 9's

if 2 you'll need a 2 channel amp, usually if the Speakers are about 300w this is the maximum watt they can put out for about 1 second

RMS is what they can permanantly run on, usually it's between 60w - 120w on 6 x 9's

what make are your Speakers, and if you look under them it should have the rms watt or nominal watt printed under neath, that is what you need to look for when looking for an amp, I would say look for a amp that puts out about 60w - 70w RMS to run your 6 x 9's.

1) ideally you need an amp thats at least a third less watts rating than the Speakers youve got. 2) and you also need to ensure that the ohmage is correctly matched between Speakers and amp. 3) care also needs to be taken with how the Speakers are wired in many cases(serial, parallel) but since i assume your going to use one speaker unit per channel you dont really have to worry about this too much and just need to make sure you get 1 and 2 right.

as an after thought make sure you use good thick guage wire for the power and ground, with a nice inline fuse on the power to the amp

If in any doubt find a car audio shop, take your instruction manuals or anything that has the specs of the components your using and ask a specialist... its far too easy to blow speakers even when the stuffs appropriately matched.

good luck and hope it turns out well

Good advice their except your bit on the amp being a 1/3 the rating of the Speakers. This may be like a rule that has got lost in translation or something! Maybe RMS is roughly a 1/3 of the peak of 6*9s and thats what your thinking of? The rms' can be matched bang on and this won't cause any damage! Yeah you could be safe and get the rms from the amp to be a BIT lower than the Speakers rms but it shouldn't matter as the rms is like an average that it will run at all the time quite happily.
