G6 Engine Conversion

Hello all! :D Been reading up alot on this site, but this is my first Post/Thread!!

I bought a G6 a few months ago, i split my time between living in London and living in Mombasa (in Kenya)!! I want to get rid of the slow engine, and put in the supercharger, i was planning on buying new pistons (with rings and pin) and also getting a new camshaft maybe. Use original crank and conrods!!!

Now for my questions:

1) Will i need all new mounting holes???

2) Can i use the original G6 6speed gearbox (have loads of long motorway type of drives so will be nice!!)

3) Should i look into upgrading the rear drums or should i just user better disks and pads upfront!

4) Ive read in some places that there might be a problem with the rev meter working, is that true?

5) How would i get rid of the speed restriction (normally 180km/h in good old Japan!)

6) Would you recommend this conversion or should i do something else instead?? i want loads of power (i moved from a Subaru....but proud to be back to Toyota (had like 5 of them so far!! Also have an Mitsu FTO)

7) Anything you guys think i should look out for???

Thanks

MOZ

hi MOZ and welcome.

right 1 some mounts may need altering/ new mounting holes drilling/ nuts fitting.

2, i beleive the 6 speed box can be used on the GZE but not sure of the ins and outs of it.

3. the rear brakes on most rollas dont seem to do a lot any way so drums should be fine. if you can find a set however the rear disc setup from a levin supercharger will fit (you will need the whole subframe with hubs)

4. if your GZE engine has the twin coil packs you will need a rev meter converter, think fennies sell them.

5. if you use UK clocks then all should be well as the ecu takes its reading from there

6 you could always do a 3S-GTE conversion, but you will need very deep pocket (£5000 if you do the bulk of the work yourself, and that will get you 250bhp ish)

7, try to get a complete front cut as then you wont be left looking for any little brackets etc.

all the beast mate :)

Hi dawesy!! thanks for your reply......... :D

Forgot to mention, the conversion is happening in Kenya, thats where i have the car! the only one to go there to my knowledge, so it stands out :D

I havent seen many 3S-GTE although it sounds like it would be really good! Dont think it would cost me £5000! my friend owns a mechenical engineering shop, and i also have my own personal mechanic! :)

Engines are much cheaper over there, the only thing i can say is there is either alot of tax, or people are making too much money! i can get a full 4E-FTE for around £400!!! thats a full kit! i had actualyl ordered one, but then i dont think that engine is worth putting in my car!! Got a huge sound system fitted (done myself! :) ) so it has to carry the weight!!!

Which car comes with the 3S-GTE! is it a b*tch on fuel? i had to normally fill up a whole tank on my subaru every 2 days! Maybe if i really get tempted will go for that!

BTW for the gold membership, where would i be getting discounts from? cos its worth paying the £25, if i am gonna get loads of stuff!!! will get loads more discount.......correct?

If i were you i wouldnt disregard the 4E-FTE, they can get upto some very nice bhp figures, and IIRC it should be a more straight forward swap from your 4E-FE

The 3SGTE came in the Celica GT4, and the MR2 Turbo, the rev 3 is said to be the strongest, and most powerful standard, and yes it is a b*tch on fuel  Just got a Celica GT4 and im getting around 18mpg, but its very good fun! :D

this is much easyer than a 4A-GZE and i don,t think the gearbox will fit a 1600 engine

Hi guys!!

Thanks for your replies..... i think im gonna forget about the 3S-GTE! Fuel might get hard to afford, especially with the driving i do! lol!

Jones~32, you mentioned good bhp figures, any example of them available?

G6-R, i agree where there might be a problem fitting the gearbox, but im sure a sandwich plate will sort it all out! i couldnt find any pics but more of could not understand the language :) lol!

I have both engines available, even with high bhp figues, will i ever match the level of torque?? i just want to try bringing it as close to a 0-60 in 6 seconds, so i can laff at times as well :D Maybe after i get bored i go for the 3S-GTE!!!

when you scroll down on those 2 adresses you could zee the old 4E-FE engine with the G6 gearbox

1. Think it's pretty much a straight swap with a bit of jiggery pokery here and there (See 7).

2. I'm pretty sure the 6 speed box from the G6/G6R won't be able to cope with the power gain from the 4A-GZE. The two guys on here that have done the conversion both ran 5 speed boxes.

3. Agree with Dawsey about the rear discs not been up to much, well they weren't on my G6R. Might be better off upgrading the fronts to something a bit better, two or four pots.

4. As Dawsey said

5. As above

6. You can tune the 4A-GZE engine up a fair amount but if you're after serious power then either drop a 3S-GTE in or just buy a faster car.

7. As Dawsey said again, get a Levin front cut then at least you know everything is there!!

Hi guys!

Thanks for all your replies...and for all the searching around you are all doing!!

im trying to get my friend in Kenya to take some pics of the car! especially of the sounds which i am proud of! still not completed it, but the basics are all done!!! have used up all the boot to fit 4 12" subs :D yay! lol

Think ill look around for a half cut, sounds like i might need it! Plus will be a safer choice!!

What can i do to improve the power? i know i can change the supercharger pulley, but wondering if anything else will give more power!!

Who can i buy some parts from?? performance parts mainly, i have seen fensport, wondering if i can also view other places!!!

BTW, does anyone know if anyone is selling a wiring loom and ecu for a 4A-GZE????

Thanks for all your help guys...every single one of you!!!!

if you get a front cut you will have everything you need. power increases are never going to be huge without big bucks. i think AE111SR has the most powerful GZE and that is just shy of 200bhp IIRC.

hes on holiday ATM but prolly the best bloke to ask. should be back soon

thanks dawesy! the only reason i asked for the wiring loom and the ecu, cos my mate has two extra 4A-GZE lying about, and both without the wiring loom or ecu! dunno what had happened. We build so called racing buggies in Kenya! engines mounted at the rear, running the rear wheels! and drive them around special tracks! its amazing! so if i can get the stuff, i can build my own, cos he ready to give me one engine :D yay! lol...

hey guys!

just wanted you all to know that ive gone for the GZE conversion...... im still in London, so my friend is the one who is getting it all done, and hopefully he should send me some pics! decided to fit the engine as standard first, get the feel for it, then ill buy all the aftermarket parts! there is a spare GZE engine there, and my friend wants to make it into a twincharger, but he wants me there, guess just to help him with moral! :D lol.........

very nice car :D engine seemed very snug!!! :D lol, u changed the airfilter a few times didnt you?? cant wait for mine to perform as good as it looks (in a sense!!!) was the bonnet scoop the levin? im gonna hopefully build my own in fibreglass when i go there in the summer, and in the future shift the intercooler in the front!!! :D

Thanks for taking the time for putting it all up! looks very nice!!!

The old engine is out...im getting feedback from my mechanic everyday (over the phone and pics!), the 6speed had no chance of fitting!!! lol, ah well, better, less chance of it breaking, and i can use that whole engine in a sort of dune buggy! yay! lol!

He mocked it all up today, only one mounting point aligns.... apparently they gonna fabricate the rest of them tomorrow, and the other problem is apparently the driveshafts are acting smaller, in a sense when u fit one side the other doesnt, but apparently he closed up for today and tomorrow he will try making sure it is basically all done! wish i was there.....wouldve been fun to try and help out! lol :)
