Taken my rav for its 60,000 miles service, and mentioned a couple of points I wanted them to look at, one being a slight wheel wobble when braking.

They telephoned me to say that Mr T has agreed to replace the front brake discs under the terms of the extended warranty. However, that is all they are replacing - they won't replace the pads as they are only 25% worn.

I was always under the impression that you replaced pads with the discs regardless of their condition!

Anyone else's views would be appreciated.

I'm an ex mechanic, and i can advise that its not compulsory to replace pads with discs, but if it was a paying job (not a warranty job) your dealer would have normally advised that discs and pads were done at the same time.

Its funny how dealers have double standards between the customer having to pay and it being a warranty job were toyota have to pay  .

Thanks for that Bob.

I suppose if the discs are in reasonable condition (not scored) just a bit warped, hence the wheel wobble, then there is no real reason to replace the pads. But like you say good old Double Standards eh by Mr T!
