Hi, i've looked across the boards but haven't found this anywhere.

The "car" is a 1991 "J" plater Master Ace. It's an import so the owners manual is about as useful as the argos catalogue in this problem given its in Japanese.

When the engine has been warmed up a light appears on the dashboard. The light is orange and shows an Oil can with a wavy line underneath it.

Its not the Oil level light as that is an Oil can in Red.

:help: So can anyone tell me what it means and how to sort the problem out.

The engine is 2.0 and is Diesel. The engine makes no odd noises and all the belts are tight and in pretty good condition.

So please please... someone tell me what it means before it drives me mental...

 am i to understand that no one has seen this light or even has a toyota manual in english that says what this light means?

If it helps just after the light comes on the Rev counter drops to 0 and doesn't register anymore.

Some one must know what this means......

:help:

The red light is low oil pressure. If this comes on get very worried.

The orange one with a wavy line IS to let you know that the oil level is getting low.

Too prove it park sideways on a slight incline. look at the light. Turn it around 180 degrees and look again. Light is on in one position and off in tother.

Top up with oil soonest.

The light will come on after a while because the oil is taken from the sump and pumped around the engine.

Hi there

just a point here that on some engines this light also comes on when the oil level is over filled, as i found out whilst visiting an aunt in london and the camber at the kerbside was quite steep and i found that the tilt gives a false over full signal
