HI,

Just bought a '98 S Avensis 1.8 GS H/B in Red in a private sale, One owner from new, complete dealer service history,

Just wondering about fitting a DAB Radio,

Sony CDX-DAB6650 Just wondering about reception, there seems to be three options, a splitter box, internal windscreen DAB aerial, but not good on a coated screen it seems, how do i find out if it has a coated screen? and arial replacement, anyone done this?

What is best option?

Will a splitter box be O/K?

Fitting the stereo should be easy, and if you want to keep it that way go for the splitter box. You just pull the entire surround off round the stereo and heater controls etc. Then the stereo is screwed in place. just remove the retaining brackets and secure them onto your new stereo.

I ran a Blaupunkt DAB52 for ages with a seperate aerial. It was a windscreen mount, but looked like a car phone aerial sort of thing. Good reception too.

Hi sj,

Thanks for that, read that a screen aerial is affected by a "coated windscreen", obviously the Avensis does not have one, was tempted by a splitter box, the Sony seems a good buy at £155 on- Low Cost Car Audio Just sold my previous carina E on Autotrader Site, got a lot of good response,

"Mod's to come = erm... any ideas??"

What about a head unit with built in bluetooth for the dog 'n bone?

Cheers,

:D

You can visibly see the coated style screens that they are on about, Renaults commonly have them on the front screen which makes them look kind of blueish green from the front. It's to stop UV rays normally.

Thanks for the mod idea! But to be honest, the Alpine head unit I already have is a cracker. Although, a bluetooth car kit is something i'd like now.
