Do I Need A Tin Opener....?

Help!! I really do need to get under the dash of my 2001 Prius but I can't find out how. With airbags and electronics involved I don't want to go hacking in, so I'd be grateful if anyone can advise.

I need to get at the tape head unit to remove a damaged cassette which won't eject (just keeps winding back and forth), and also someone has fitted an aftermarket ultrasonic reversing warning device, which emits random shrieks which are completely unrelated to anything the car is doing. I have to disconnect it before my wife goes insane. BTW, does the Prius normally beep during reversing anyway? And if so, is it the low beep or the high beep....? Neither seems to be sensibly regular, maybe both are from the rear warning device? I've never used one.

Thanks, folks.....

P.S. If anyone is interested there is a cutaway illustration of the electric RAV4 EV (RIP) here:

  • 3 months later...

is your pruis the earlier shaped one with the corolla wheels, if so i cant really help on the cassette bit, cause i have never taken one of, if its the later i will try to help

as for the reverse park sensors, they should be getting a live feed from one of the reverse lights, it should be easy to see as it will be splice into the wire, if you disconnect this the sensors will not work and your wife wont go insane, just be careful in the boot cause obviously there is a 200 odd volt Battery hiding in there
