Computer Help

My computer refuses to restart. I've gone through the system properties and as far as i can tell everything is fine. And yet, the :!Removed!: thing won't restart it just shutsdown completely. Needless to say this is beginning to bug me. A few moments ago i used windows update, downloaded what was available, clicked the automatically restart option and it turned itself off.

Any suggestions as to resolving this issue would be appreciated.

Hmm - most likly case is the ACPI in the BIOS of the motherboard is incorrect.

Which motherboard do you have?

Yep, some motherboards have the ability to control power settings for the computer. You need to disable this so windows has full control.

Usually the quickest way is to reset your bios setting to factory default as most motherboards have it disabled in the bios be default.

or

try this, go to start and then run.

type in SHUTDOWN -R and then hit enter, the machine 'should' reboot

Yeah, sound slike a BIOS error... if you can find the option to disable power control in BIOS then do that, otherwise it may need re-setting which can best be done with a small plug on your motherboard being swapped between pins... check your motherboard manual for details of where it is.

Or, it could be a windows registry problem... that's a tad more tricky and shouldn't be touched unless you know exactly what to do!

Try going to windows online help... there's a massive database of faults, troubleshooting and fixes for almost any problem.
