Pas Fluid Leaking Please Help!

I have a '94 2.0GT which has recently started loosing PAS fluid. I cannot see the leakage anywhere as there seems to be no fluid deposited on the ground under the car or anywhere around the engine.

Has anyone had this problem or can anyone suggest what could be causing this. :help:

Try checking the gaitors at the ends of the steering rack.

If they are full or even contain fluid the seals on the rack have gone and require renewing.

Bad news as this would fail an MOT i'm pretty sure.

Its passed the MOT in FEB. Would this be expensive to fix?

Not sure as I have never worked on a Celica.

Renewing gaitors is not a hard job, just awkward as you need to split the ball joint from the strut and then remove any clips holding the gaitor before sliding it down the steering rod.

Replacement is the dead opposite.

If you can split the ball joint easily it should only take 30-45 mins each side.

It would fail an MOT my other halfs failed last week the fluid was leaking out of the guaiter (Not good)

But it only cost him £50 to get it sorted, so you should be ok.

The guaiters can perish really eaisly and quickly if steering fluid get on the outside of them.

It's not just the gaitor that needs changing though - the seal in the end of the rack must have failed for fluid to get into the gaitor. I don't know how difficult it is to replace the seal.

Could also be worth checking the pas pump (on the back of the engine - difficult to see from above), for leakage.

Good point mikeb.

I forgot to say about renewing the seals.

I think they are just rubber ones so should pop out easily. Possibly there will be a spring clip that holds them in.
