i'm with admiral. i had no no claims, 20 years old and have gone fully comp on an SR (group 13) for £1600. not bad considering all other quotes i got were over 2k or 3k.

Try them anyway

Ouch sounds expensive - have you got convictions or points?

A quote for me on a GT4 is under £600 F/C and I'm younger than you.

A GT doesn't come out much cheaper at around £550

I park on the Street do 10k miles per year, I live in Stoke-on-trent.

I've only got 4 yncb

So I'm not sure what you're doing wrong!

The insurance thingy on the autotrader website is a great place to start to see which company will give you a good quote.

There are so many things they consider that it makes it difficult for people to recmmend any one company, cause a slight change in details can make a big difference in the quote a particular company will give you.

reckon you could def manage fully comp for under £1000

no convictions no points 2 accidents in last five years 1 was my fault the last one in may 2004..some idiot came out of a side road

sotal ...what company are you with?

best quote iv got so far is £1024 and not fogetting the fourty pence...that was the company we'd been with last year when i paid about 1250...and i dont really want to pay more that 700-800 this time

b&^^%$Ks isnt it

must be my area, but even if i kept the car in the garage i only save fifty quid....whoppee dooo

Accidents make more of a difference than points as it means they actually have to pay for something, where as points just increase your risk.

Try a few quotes for yourself, insurance companies are starting to get wise to the "I'll get insurance as a named driver on my dad insurance" thing and it can turn out cheaper doing just yourself as the policy holder.

Just did a quote following my accident for another GT4

£550, parked on driveway, 25, 4 years NCB, 3 points, and 1 accident. With Nationwide Online. Also insure imports as UK cars if they've been fully converted to UK spec.

Also try Elephant.co.uk. was £430 last renewal before the accident.

Currently I'm with Directline as they were cheapest for the ST and they allowed me to pay monthly interest free.

Churchill gave the cheapest quotes for a GT4 though (and by cheapest they beat anyone else by about £300) but for some reason a GT isn't much cheaper.

Wife keeps nagging me to go newer though so it looks like I might go for a gen 7 TSport next.

Must be the accidents. I've only had the one in the car which wrote the car off but it wasn't my fault. I'm guessing you've got no ncb as well? If you've just been a named driver?? If that's the case then you should really bite the bullet and get insured my yourself. (or get a cheap car to insure to your ncb up and have the Celica aswell)

Only other thing I can think is get married - changing my girlfriend into my wife reduced my policy by about £100 (Shame the wedding cost thousands  )

Dude, with no NCB as far as the insurance company is conserned you've either only just started driving or you've had accidents in the past. Hence it's going to be expensive to insure a car like this get the first year or so NCB under your belt and prices will come down. Also once you pass 25 it does make a difference.

Other option is to get a copy of max power (I know how sin full) and phone a few of the companies in the back, just remember that they might give you cheaper insurance but if the me comes they'll be a pain in the **** to deal with....

Selling it might be an option to look at if you aren't going to use it, but get yourslef something cheap to insure for a couple of years whilst you do't need a car much - that way you'll increase your ncb ready for when you do want a high insurance group car.

I kind of wish I'd had my own insurance from the start but I don't think it would make a big difference now. I was on my dads insurance for the 1st couple of years. Saying that the insurance companies did want over a grand for me on my own in a 1.1l metro. On my dads insurance it was £200.

yeh thats the trouble, the way i look at it when im older ie over 25 it should drop anyway and il be more financially settled by then and would be able to afford extortionate amounts

im going to phone directline and see what they can quote

Have you tried churchill?

Failing that here is a local one to me:

http://www.aynsleyinsurance.co.uk/

Websites not good at the moment, but they one of those nice small companies that bend over backwards to get you the best deal and offer great support should the worst happen. Not tried them for car insurance but I thought I'd try them for home insurance last month and they beat the best quote I could find anywhere by £60

so :censor:

im swearing a lot these days!

Any mods will make large difference, especially without any NCB to tame it. I think it boils down to you having the worst combination possible:

Young driver

Accident history

No NCB

Imported model

Modifications

Try getting a quote for a standard UK GT, it might be worth swapping to what is effectively the same car. Also make sure you tell them what your annual mileage is going to be - you say you're not going to use it much so make your mileage clear to them.

Edited to say - my insurance has always been less than £450 a year on all of my cars, right from when I was 17, and always in my own name as well. :D

i would mike but i dnt think i can downgrade lol

wat i mean is im used to the way my car looks, its lush, theres a few celicas nearby but none which look like mine which is wat makes it stand out

iv got a quote for 920£ as a named driver, i guess it wont hurt as much when im paying instalements!!!

I don't know if anyone really cares but just to add to the list to see if anyone (inc. myself) is being ripped off.

22 year old male

Stadard UK GT

driving over 5 years

sp30 just less than 5 years

no claims. ever

2 years NCB

£840 with direct line! I am quite pleased with it, especially as it is only a couple of hundred more than my 1.4 sunny. However, if it doesn't sound good to you, let me know.

Wow! That sounds great! Make sure you don't write off another! Guess mine is more because the poor thing is on the road in the outskirts of London. (Still a great area though) Or maybe yours is less because you told them you like Slipknot :band:
