Hi,

I'm new to this site so bear with me.

To my complete dismay, and that of my bank manager, I have just (two weeks ago) had to have a recon engine fitted to a 94 2.2 TD Emina, because of alleged water corrosion on the barrels of the old one. The new one has what sounds like bad tappets, a loud ticking that increases in frequency as the engine revs up. When I took the van back this week, I was told that the tappets are not hydraulic and hence the head would need to come off to sort it out. Can any one advise me:

1) Is it necessary to remove the cylinder head to adjust the tappets, or are the garage lining me up for another massive bill?

2) Do I need to adjust the tappets at all, or can I expect performance to degrade as a result?

3) Can I expect the garage to sort it out free of charge, given that we have done about 200km since fitting the recon engine. To my mind, the garage have fitted an engine that should have been in fulfull working order and therefore they are responsible for it.

Thanks for your help.

sorry to hear of your problem.the garage should sort the work out free of charge.if not just mention trading standards.its only the rocker cover that comes off for the tappets to be adjusted.or replaced. i think they are just trying to make money out of you.i bet they even kept yept your old engine.

cheers ray
