Not The Foggiest

Recently obtained a new pair of Toyota foglights for my 98 EE111, assuming that fitting them would be a breeze. I've already obtained the fixing bolts and brackets, cut the requisite hole in the front grill, then mounted the units whilst connecting them to the appropriate plugs behind the grille. I'm assuming that a relay needs to be fitted, and I reckon I've got it's mounting identified but I just don't know what to do as regards the switch. Looking at the handbook, the relevant control is incorporated into the LH column stalk when the lamps are factory fitted, but I don't know what provision is made for lights fitted by a main dealers at a later date (EPC is hopeless in this case!)- surely the cost of a replacement stalk would be prohibitively expensive? So, all I really want to know is what other owners have done in this case; do Toyota sell a sensible alternative or do I just grit my teeth and fit a Halfords special? A wiring diagram would be much appreciated as well.

All the best,

Jon & Ali

i think the local scrappy would be the best bet if you want the proper stalk for cheap! dont know how you would go about dismanteling the stalk or wiring the fog lights to the stalk, but im sure it'll be pretty easy (i think!)

im gonna have the same problem as well when i do decide to fit some foggies on to my car as i dont have that stalk thingy!

From what I have seen and on other models which have had the OEM fogs fitted as extra's, they are normally wired to a switch in one of the blanks.

However I can't see why if the wiring loom is already there that the stalk can't be just plugged in. The pins would be remaining however there would be no signal along the wire.

Check eBay or the local scrappy - but give Mr T a call and ask them

Some of there prices aren't to bad TBH and you would expect them to be charging alot more for it.

2 options i would suggest,

1) got to a scrappy, find an old corolla which has a rear fog light button with light, and wire the fogs into that, which would fit nicely in your dash, but might look very 80's (also starlets ee91 have the switches in em more upto date, but no light in it)

2) go to a scrappy and get a set of stalks from a top of the range corolla, which has the fog light switch built into it, the stalks will be plug an play, but under the steering coloum, where the main loom is is where the fog light wire will stop, and this is where you will have direct the wires to hook up your 12v to relay and negative.

I've done this on an ae101 and 2nd option is good, if you can get the !Removed! thing, obvioulsy the g6, g6r, sr which came with front fogs will have the stalk u need, which others? well any ae111 which has fogs.

The dealer oem fogs would usually come with sum crappy switch because the newer oem stuff is not made by toyota but for toyota...

hope this helps,

Kamran
