Well in that case there probably is not that much between 3SFE and GE then.

I pressume they have different Gearboxes then, and so by sticking in a shorter ratio box it would mean very little difference up to 60.

Shame I was comparing the wrong engine!! ooopps

Some facts from celicaclub to clear things up:

ST/SR/LTD Model code AT200,engine 7A-FE ,1.8 114 BHP.

GT Model Code ST202 ,engine 3S-GE , 168 to 173 BHP.

SS1 Jap model, engine 3S-FE, 138bhp

1994 to around October 1996, the GT had 173bhp, then after that date it dropped to 168 bhp, and stayed at that , until the end of production.

0-60 times

1.8 ST = 9.9sec

SS1 = 8.5sec

2.0 GT= 7.9sec

GT4 = 6.3 Sec.

Top Speed ST = 124 mph

GT = 137 mph

GT4 152 MPH

Arrow :Below are some facts and figures on Gen6 imports

SS-1 ,2.0 16V engine 3S-FE , 138 BHP

SS-2 ,2.0 16V engine 3S-GE ,177BHP /auto 167 BHP

SS-3 ,2.0 16V engine 3S-GE ,177BHP /auto 167 BHP

Convertible ,2.0 16V 3S-GE engine 170 bhp /auto 167 BHP

GT4,2.0 16V engine 3S-GTE 251 BHP.

And for anyone dissappointed about their BHP figures, here is something to really cheer you up:

The Gen 6 line up for the USA, consisted of two engine options, a 135 bhp 2.2 GT,and a 105bhp ST 1.8 unit :crybaby:

Can't understand why they gave the US such horribly low power, I mean the US usually gets the bigger more powerful engines, what with their big highways and everything!!

US was due to low emissions, and also low fuel quality and high air temps (a LOT more dett).

Have a look in the performance section as I've added details about the history of the 3S engine.

Yeah there isn't too much but it is noticeable , particualry at higher speeds - my (3sfe) isnt nearly as quick after about 80-90 but up to there i can *almost* stay with my mates 3sge . I've driven his car and unlike my slight jump after 4k revs his has a much more noticable kick about there and right up to the redline ! ! His is standard though .
