Gt4 Turbo Boost Loss

Help,

Travelled to London the other day and noticed when I went to accelarte off to the slip road, a lack of power. I was crusing around 80mph and looked at turbo needle and this only moved to the 0 mark and no further.

No noise from turbo to indicate problem nor any black smoke, did notice though a whistle after leaving a serice area about 40 miles back but thought it was a lorry I was passing.

Checked all connections and seems to be okay, checked error codes and the only code is 54, coolant level is fine though so I guess this is just the sensor playing up.

Dropped into local garage and they had a quick check over and could not find anything electrical that could be a problem, they say it could be the waste gate is stuck open?

Noticed that the car was very slightly hesitant when under accelaration like a slight misfire, put this down to needing service soon though. Since power has been lost I have noticed it is sluggish (understandably) but around the 2.5 to 3000 rpm there still seems to be like a misfire or struggle that something is trying to happen, turbo needle still only goes to 0 and back when accelarating.

Been out tonight and seen if I could move the actuator lever to the wategate but can not quite get anything on it without stripping down surrondings so gave the actuator a couple of taps and the lever. Jumped in car to check out any difference and the hesitation has now gone when accelarating, needle still only goes to 0 but performance is much better, though not turbo standards. I guess it feels more like a 2.0litre car than previous to giving it a few taps felt more like a 1.4litre car.

Car is a standard st205 GT4 1996 with no mods, japanese import. Any one provide any help? :crybaby:

Could be a boost leak or could be a sticking actuator.

Have a good look round for any cracks in pipework especially the dump valve pipe, also unbolt the dump valve and check this isn't stuck open.

To check if the actuator is working connect a pump in place of the pipe from the turbo and start pumping you should see the bar being to move around 5PSI and be fully open around 11PSI.

Thanks Sketchy, done some checks around the pipe areas etc, someone mentioned to me that actuator arm should be seen to move slightly when you rev the engine but I can not see this at all.

I have booked the car into Hyeline in Cardiff tomorrow for them to run checks and give me the bad news:excl:

I'll post up the outcome (if I can afford the web access) tomorrow to let peeps know. :jawdrop:
