More Sr Questions

Got the SR now, love it! It's fully debadged on the back as well which looks so good!!

Anyway, some questions:

  • I think it could do with a new Battery, it takes 4 or so cranks before it starts and the interior light dims when the hazards are on!!! What Battery is recommended? How many AH etc.
  • Doesn't the SR have seat height adjust? That's quite annoying it is very high especially for me!!
  • Should the gearbox be that clunky? First and second are slow changes as it doesn't like going in very easily until the revs are right. Box just seems 'loose and rattly' - is it different to the other models?
  • Rear window demister doesn't work - most likely fuse or something more sinister? Where are the fuses? (I need a haynes manual!!!).
  • How many miles will I have when the lower fuel bar starts to flash?

That should do for now!! :D

:| New Battery already?! Ah welll..

Nah, SR doesn't really have seat height adjust, if I'm feeling short I just move the seat forward a bit and that props me up a bit more.... I normally drive with the seat all the way back, and if you've already done this, try changing the seat tilt - someone else here mentioned they were 6 foot and did that.

Yeh, 1st to 2nd is a bit long winded on my SR, but the rest work fine. You'll get used to it eventually, but I have noticed people on here saying about greasing the gear cable and other bits to make it work smoother? May be useful for yours?

What happens when you press the button? I had a similar thing where mine didn't work - but then again neither did the hazard lights and I found out the cable at the back was loose. There are fuses just below the key area thing to the right of steering wheel and near the Battery in the engine bay, it has these marked out in your manual.

I've not worked out yet how many miles are left when the bar starts to flash, but its a bit iffy, so I wouldn't rely on it! Sometimes you'll have 2 bars when you switch off the engine and when you start it up again it'll be a solid (well actually flashing) 1 bar.

1. Sounds like you need a new Battery or it needs charging (ask woody  )

2. Nope no height adjustable seat, try a combination of steering wheel height, seat back postion and seat distance to get a comfortable driving position.

3. Yes it should be that clunky, i like the notchy gearbox.

4.Don't know the fuse position, but a lot of people have had this problem due to stickers on the back window.

5.Test it and see  you are probably good for 10-20 miles dependant on speed and driving style.

Car's 5 years old so I'll have to get a new Battery then - Halfrauds will do one for it I hope!!

Gearbox is cool (a bit like the Supra! :P ), just making sure it's not broke!

I'll take it back in to MrT where I bought it for the demister repair then.

Maybe I'll just make sure the fuel never gets that low!!

ive had bout 50-60 miles when the light flashes. go on just give it a go and see. and if you run out of petrol, dont worry. ive run aout of fuel a few times. lol

with the rear window, check the wiring to the boot when you open the boot, just take out the rubber thing and check the wires arnt caught, or cut. then to check its the whole screen, turn it on and then breath on all the lines on the rear window, if its working the condensation should dissapear.

yeah my cars takes longer to satrt, bout four or five turns before it eventually starts. ive tried new plugs but didnt work.

the seats are ok, maybe a little high and the gearbox is not too bad

fuses should be on the right hand side of the steering wheel and under, I don't know if you have a wide pocket on the under side of the steering wheel but my fuses are there, a black panel about 4" by 4".

Well, on the P2 you have a handy guage which tells you how many miles you have left in your tank.... it normally gets to about 20 before it flashes, but I remember Moffmo telling me ages ago that it was more like 50 miles....

First and second gears are amazing in the SR if you thrash the pants of them, if your going slow then there a bother lol!!

So you no what you have to do if you dont like 1st and 2nd gear! lol

Yeh I've noticed that about first + second too haha. However, fuel consumption suffers massively, so I'm trying to change up earlier :).

Gearbox is a gem... just different to most other cars sloppy 'boxes.

Battery might just need a good cahrge... go for an hour+ on the motorway with no stereo, heater, lights, wipers or any other electrics on and it should give it a good charge up for you!

When the petrol light flashes you have one gallon of fuel left plus whatever is in the lines, so about 40 miles on average driving.

OK then next set:

Driver's window rattles when it's up!!!! It's fine when it's down though which is odd!! Back to Mr T?

How can I get body coloured mirrors? Buy new mirrors? Take mine off (is this easy?) and spray them? Can't find a can of flame gold anywhere on the net!

mine only rattled when it was over half up, but not fully closed, i dont get it any more cos ive got wind deflectors.

Yep just whip those mirrors off and get them sprayed at a body shop. Just find out the paint code and you can get the paint anywhere. But best place mr T.
