I am really considering getting a t sport corolla, what tuning is around for them in terms of exhaust systems, headers, sport cats and induction kits. What bhp can you realistically see?

All depends what your budget is really. There arent many cheap improvents to make, the only two being, first porting the stock exhaust manifold, and secondly ditching your back seats, hot air blower, fog lights etc to save weight, but thats a bit hardcore, although will make far far more difference than any amount of induction kits or exhausts. Anyway you can basically get anything for the car, you just need to look in the right places and do your research, also this is not a cheap car to tune, none are really when done properly, but you really dont have a lot of choice when tuning the corolla.

Well at the moment i have a megan racing header, envy decat and centre section, fujitsubu rear section, k&n typhoon, perrin crank pulley, tein coileys, if i got a corolla i would want to reach the same level of tune but cant seem to find the parts, any links to good sites, what has other people done

Well as far as i know the typhoon kit for the corolla has received nothing but praise, so i'd go for it, you can get short rams from blitz and hks, or with a little fidling the cold air intakes for the american matrix xrs will fit, injen and aem both make kits for it, but there is a hot air blower where the actual filter pod sits so you need to move the hot air blower or remove it. Alternativly, simply remove the intake piping that sits behind the passenger side headlight and feeds its way to the airbox, its not quite as good as a full induction kit, but its free, and the car will sound awsome.

Exhaust wise you can basically use a header for the celica, but you'd need to be carefull as some headers may have egr ports and some may not, i'm not that clued up about that so its worth checking if you were using an aftermarket header from america. From all the reading i have done though it appears that the best option is to have your stock manifold ported, theres a nice lip where it meets the head, and so far a ported header is the only one to show consistent gains. Theres loads of info on that over on newcelica.org. As for the rest of the system you basically have to go custom, the routing is different to the japanese version, its worth checking out the australian toyota forum as theres a few exhaust systems over there that seem good, but i'm not sure if there routing is different or not.

Suspension wise you can take your pick, cusco, tein etc, get camber adjusting top mounts!!! its a mistake i made and my kw's were a nightmare to set for camber. its worth upgrading the rear antiroll bar, as its quite soft, when you enter a corner hard the rear outside suspension compresses a lot, which causes the inside fornt wheel to lift, and as there is no limited slip diff in the gearbox all the power ends up going to the wheel in mid air when you step on the power, a stiffer rear antiroll bar would go someway to helping this. A lsd would help again, best option is quaife or trd.

Info in the uk for tuning the corolla is scarce, what you need to do is look at the celica websites, the drive train between the corolla and celica is identical, the suspension is different in that the rear of the corolla is a twist beam, and the celica has double wishbones, so suspension components wont share. Engines and gearbox are identical. Chassis code to use whilst searching for parts is zze123r (zze12*) for the corolla and zzt231 when looking at celica parts. Engine code is 2zz-ge.

Good websites to check are newcelica.org, its an american site so you'll need to get your crapfilter out, they have a database of parts that include headers, pulleys etc that you could use. Check the sportivo section of the australian owners club, loads of great info there, they are well ahead of the uk in terms of tuning the corolla. Keep an eye on the uk celica club, anything that apply's engine/gearbox/ecu wise to the 7th gen celica will apply to the corolla. If your into tuning up the engine then check out elisetalk, the current elise 111r and upwards use the 2zz-ge and now they are doing so there are plenty of cams etc turning up for this engine.

Good luck

Thanks for your help. Just a shame there are no exhaust systems, think i have found a TRD header also think i have found an exhaust on the envy site but not to sure if its compatable yet, im not really into powerflow systems

I'd seriously not waste your money on an aftermarket header, if you look at all the results from those who have changed it really does appear that having the stock manifold ported is the best way to go, the trd header is designed to work along with the trd camshafts and ecu, which i dont think you can buy. Theres years of debate over on newcelica.org about ported stock header vs aftermarket. A i'd agree stay clear of powerflow, just get a universal backbox if you like, and find a decent garage to weld you up a centre section.

No way going universal is against every bone in my body, I would stick with the stock header, I think i have found a c-one exhaust system (jap style aswell) that takes my fancy. Has no one on here got an aftermarket exhaust?

whats wrong with an apexi n1 backbox or something? thats the sort of universal back box i meant, Problem with the c-one system is that its likely to be for the jap corolla routing, i'm not sure it will fit, as the exhaust actually exits on the oppositte side to the uk model, and the back box runs from right to left, rather than front to back as it does on the uk model. It might bolt up just fine, you'd need to check if the mounts are all there, i dont know of anyone that has done it.
