Water Swishing Sound At Front Of Carina Ii 1990

After starting my Dads old Carina, you can hear a sound like water swishing around, or being poured into something, at the front of the car. It seems to be coming from somwhere behind the radio as far as my ears can tell.

When you rev a little before taking off you hear a big "swishhh", and when the car starts moving you hear a little more - it comes and goes. It seems to have more to do with the engine (revving) than movement. So if I let the car roll and brake hard, you don't really hear it. When driving, it goes away a little, but can still be heard if driving slowly or through traffic.

Does anyone have any clue as to what this could be? The car has 286,000 miles, but this noise started a long time ago and seems to be getting louder / more obvious receltly. Just worried it might be something serious

Sounds like the cooling system has air in it. You will need to try bleeding it. From cold take off the radiator cap and make sure the coolant is filled right to the top. turn the heater on full hot and the fan speed on low. with the cap still off start the engine and let it idle. Once it is warmed up and coolant starts to come out the radiator put the cap back on. Let it run till the cooling fan cuts in. Turn off the engine and only once it has cooled down remove the cap and check the level. top it up if need be.

NEVER REMOVE THE CAP WHEN THE ENGIN IS WARM!!!!!!!
