Ecu Problem

I have a 2001 Yaris 1.3 CDX. A while ago the ABS warning light started to come on intermittently. I took it to a garage who traced it to the ECU - not good news. I ignored the problem but the warning light is now on solidly and it will fail an MoT. Some people have suggested that it's probably just a dry joint in the ECU.

I'm into electronics but haven't ever worked on an ECU. Is it as easy as disconnecting the Battery, removing the ECU, taking it apart, resoldering any possibly dry joints and refitting it, or do you need £5000 worth of test equipment?

And if I do need a replacement ECU, again does it need test equipment to set it up?

Thanks
