I'd like to see a v6 Mk1 ..

Why, when someone in the US has built a V8? ;)

Lee has a vid, I'll try and dig it out.

Because the V6 is toyota and can have a TRD charger slappped on it. Then it's all from the same marque. It's also lighter than the 3S.

The v8 is a 5.7 short block chevvie lump. And it may be good in loads of other cars, but it's heavier and non Toyota.

Paul Woods is currently doing a Toyota (Lexus) V8 conversion on his MK1. IIRC, he is using the 1UZ-FE engine.

Am liking the video. But am not sure about vette's driving... some of the lines he takes is not that of an experienced track dayer. Looks like he was trying to stay out of puddles

well it makes sense to stay out of the puddles, wet your tyres even a little and that will cool down, cause un-needed slip and lower the grip of the individual or whole side of the cars tyres.

the corvette dude isnt driving it properly, like you said he looked inexperienced. if that was the best the corvette could do then that throws the car that america was once most proud of down the toilet with a massive sinker attached to it

and imagine the torque to weight ratio of that MK1!!!! :o

The mk1 still weighs in over a ton .. and the 3s aint light.

But I'd be scared driving a 300bhp (no point not tweaking the engine while it's out) ME RWD car with such a short wheelsbase. Especially with it's large rear weight bias and the height and width issues.

The Mk2 was bad enough on the limit (40:60 weight split) and that's got a longer wheelbase.

I do a fair few track days and have never really had a problem with puddles or full-on wet. The only problem I seem to have on numerous ocasions is the choice of tyre

Naturally I prefer a dry track

at the end of the day its a vette so its yank.... so it doesnt go round corners or even intend to

But still, good driving and obviously a guy who knows his car to catch and pass it.

naturally :) i could get back from reading under 30 mins easily in the wet, imagine if there was a mate of mine in a 300zx (twin turbo) TRYING to keep up with me (in a yaris)

well, thing is i just think that with any rear wheel drive car the grip is SERIOUSLY comprimised. front wheel drive is so much safer in the wet.

in the wet theres no predicting what the "mu" is like on the road, in the dry you have a very set limit to slip or not to slip.

that is indeed the question :P

In the wet FWD understeers, you ease off and carry on ..

RWD oversteers, you ease off and park in a hedge.

I've found the limit is better with RWD, it's just a thinner line when you cross it.
