Dodgy Clutch?

About 1 in every 4 times I press the clutch pedal it seems really stiff to change gear and clunks into gear mainly 1st and 2nd. My friend said I’m not pressing the clutch hard enough but it only recently started doing it and I pretty sure I haven’t changed my driving style?

The clutch has only been in there about 8 months as got new clutch when I has re-con gear box fitted as got the 5th gear problem at the end of last year.

Can I adjust the clutch at all? As it is hydraulic is there an adjuster for it?

Or do you know of any other problem it could be?

Thanks for any advice

Regards

Phil.

you can adjust the pedal. its an awkward job.

lie in the drivers footwell an look upto the clutch pedal. where the master cylinder rod conects to the pedal you will see a locking nut and a threaded rod.

this will adust the pedal. obviously making the rod longer will give more pedal travel

  • 2 weeks later...

Now have slightly bigger problem with clutch, the pedal goes straight to floor with no resistance!!!

I was in Abingdon at the time on way home just turned off A34, and it happed. I managed to do roadside repair by bleeding system and refilling with engine oil I had to hand but it didn't last very long, about 30 mile and went again. So I decided not damage it anymore and drove home about anther 60 miles with no clutch was very 'interesting' drive.

I do have some sort of clutch when sat at lights if I just gently rest my foot on clutch and give her a few revs 2k or so i can feel it slowly pressurise, and then I can slam the pedal down and put into 1st buy holding it in the position when the pedal down it slots in then pull away before it stalls, the rest of the time i just matched revs whist driving.

I presume it one of cylinders master or slave that gone and because i put oil in it need new seal kit too, how hard is it to change the cylinders and seals as i have not done this before.

Regards

Phil.
