Auto Trader

Ok, I've had my car on Autotrader for a week now and the only interest I've had has been from Scammers, morons like cardata and realmatch, and ONE guy who was interested in buying my car over the next few weeks but still hasn't arranged to see it yet......... :ffs: :ffs: :ffs:

So I ask you all who have autotrader experience, how long has it typically taken you to sell your car on autotrader. I went with the internet only option - was this possibly a bad idea, should I have done it in the magazine as well????

it varies mate - the used car market is slow in general, and depending on your car, history and price, you may struggle...

Do you have something rare? or are there a lot of similar cars, how does yours stand out?

Why not try posting it on www.pistonheads.com classifieds too..

I personally have no experience, but will be putting one of mine up shortly. However speaking with a couple of friends I’ve seen it vary from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. I guess it boils down to time of year and condition of the current market in terms of both buyers and cars within your class.

It's a bit like the 'how long is a piece of string?' question. I sold one of my cars within one day of placing an online Auto Trader advert - but then it was a cheap family vehicle.

If yours is a bit more specialist, then I'd recommend you advertise on relevant clubs too. It's normally free (or much cheaper than A.T anyway) and you'll be targeting the kind of people that will want & appreciate your vehicle. :)

From experience, I haven't had much luck on the website..

Id suggest going for one of the packages -2 weeks on the website and 2 weeks in the magazine is £45 I think.

Also signing up to a load of forums and posting up some pics there might generate some interest. I've also been on alot of free-ads type sites and put ads there.

My last car sold from Auto Trader magazine within a day, the car I'm selling now has been up for a month :( I've also had one or two calls (and lots from Car Data :ffs: ) and another guy who said I'll come over tonight and pay in cash, and then never called back!

Good luck!

Personally i think autotrader is a great site for buying - selling wise it just depends on the car and MORE importantly the PRICE......

I have bought cars off the website within hours of them going live - it all boils down to price, and the car market is actually picking up now compared a couple of moths ago..

Rash.

p.s. also try advertising in the for sale section.

The other option is to put it up on eBay..

I delayed on doing this for a while but have found that the fees on selling cars on there aren't too bad. I put mine on yesterday and have had a couple of calls about it.

I did my Matiz on the net and the magazine....

I was overwhelmed at the response, well for a Daewoo anyway!

But I guess it depends on the car and the market, mine was a small hatch that was cheap, so it was bound to sell quick....
