Microsoft's Version Of Google Earth

The pic of my house is slightly newer than Google Earth.

Isn't it funny how everyone rushes to look at their homes? We all probably know what they look like from above, but it's like our own little piece of fame!

I've just been looking at all the places I regularly park my car.. see if I can find it!! :D

That's why I'm glad the pics are not real-time.

Who's to say someone couldn't set up a 'shopping list' in their area and et voila! Your car's not on the road the next day?

they wont...

Although they allegedly poached one of Microsoft's top OS programmers, prompting a CEO to throw a chair and mention burying Google. Or words to that effect. Don't know if it's true or not but I wouldn't be surprised.

you need to consider the structure required to support, update and release an O/S, it takes more than just a couple of programmers.

Google would need a whole new company's worth of experts just for that purpose... and then it'd fail unless it was highly windows interoperable and they could get the likes of Dell on side...

Definately. Microsoft employ loads of peeps for it OS products. One of 'em's a clients brother... got me my copy of XP from the MS Shop in Washington or wherever it was, Seattle probably. Top chap.

Just thought it worth mentioning one of the CEOs "having a jig"!

Edit: My US geography is crap! ;)

All very well, but the world is changing. Google Mail, Calendar etc. don't need much of an operating system. Did you notice Google recently acquired Writely?

Traditionally an OS is: memory management; process scheduler; filesystem; device drivers.

Linux has all of those, so do other free operating systems. All can run a web browser and hence run Google apps.

What Google could bring to the party is a cut down version of Linux, for example, with a web front end. Low maintenance, but highly effective if you have a reliable network connection.

Paul.
