Strange Noise Coming From Engine

My engine has developed a strange noise. Its kind of a rumbling noise coming from around the timing belt cover. I think its probably one of the tensoiners.

Has anyone else had this problem? Should I leave it and see if it gets worse or does it need to be looked at quickly?

The only thing i know is serious engine repairs on mr2's can be very expensive, < that expensive. Maybe just get it looked at by somebody reputable fast in case it is something that could go critical. Think this might be one of those er on the side of caution things.... be what id do if it was mine anyhow

but im sure somebody will be along shortly with far more insightful advice real soon.... maybe dont drive it unless absolutely necessary in case in the meantime.

Best of luck... hope its something trivial and easilly sorted at low cost

if it is your cambelt pulleys or tensioners.. best to get it seen to... if they fail .. even tho the MR2 is non interferance engine.. can still be a pain the the ***** to fix :P

Sounds like it could be a bearing on a tentioner pulley. Get it checked out asap. It's one belt you really don't want to let slip

Well, I've booked my car in to have the timing belt, idler pulleys and tensioner changed. I'll ask them so give me the old parts so I can see what sort of condition they are really in. I've been quoted £299 for the whole job (using Toyota parts), does this sound about right?

seems like a decent price mate. I got quoted £90 for my old mr2 if I supplied the parts.

Well, my car is now in bits at the garage, turns out the problem was the water pump. There was loads of play in the pulley but strangly there was no leak. Hopefully I'll get it back on Monday all fixed :) .
