Strange Engine Noise

Hi there guys

I am newbie and having my first problem with my lovely yaris t-sport which I have had from new for 4 years now.

The yaris is making a noise I would describe it as a light wurring sound when the engine is underload, which disappears when the clutch is engaged and I think it is coming from the drivers side of the engine.

I decided to take it to our friends at Toyota who test drove it with me and said a clutch bearing release thing was loose and needed replacing along with my clutch (which has been slipping for a while) together with a clutch cover.

Apparently this is a 4 and half hour job and may need stripping or the fly wheel thingy may also need replacing but this won’t be known til they get their hands on the car and start work on it.

Obviously I wont be going to Toyota for the work as they want about £190 for the parts(clutch kit) which my bro can kindly get off a nice mate for £60.Now all I have to do is find a cheap reliable mechanic in the southend-on-sea area or anywhere an hour or so drive away that can do the labour as Toyota want about £400 for labour.

Any ideas or thoughts would really be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Id have a word with Earpl and see what he says - hes changed his clutch for an uprated one and will give you an accurate idea of how long it takes and how difficult it is.

Might be worth getting an uprated clutch while you're at it?

feel sorry for ya mate. 400 is a hell of a lot. i had the same problem about a month ago ... some bearing in the gearbox was knackered aslong with my clutch... too much heel and toe haha... but yeah took it to toyota and found out it was under warranty...still needed new clutch which i got from fensport. quality TRD clutch.

thanks for all the advice guys.

Seems like a 4.5hour job so got to find a decent mechanic that wont charge me too much.

So no more riding the clutch for me from now on......hehe :)
