Servicing

Hi all.

Can anyone tell me exactly what parts I need for a full service ?

I prefer to get them myself, but I'm also a bit weary as to whether the garage folk will discard my materials, for some cheaper ones.

They did say that they could get them if I wanted them to.

I find it hard to trust garage people

Thanks guys (and gals).

:)

that depends on what mileage your car has done as some items don't need to be changed until certain milage but general items for full service are:

oil filter + oil

brake fluid

air filter (every 3 yrs / 30k)

coolant (every 3 yrs / 40k)

spark plugs (every 4yrs / 40k)

other items such as brake pads will require inspection before you know if you need to replace them

Thanks willya.

I only tend to do about 3500 miles a year, and the last service was done a year ago (before I purchased the vehicle).

I think it's a bit silly to have a full service when it's only done that much mileage (although the oil and oil filter might need a change).

Could you tell me how often anti-freeze should be changed ?

Thanks.

I generally buy Millers 10w40 and TRD/Power Enterprise Filters and I have an induction system so no air filter.

The oil filters are around 20quid, the oil 25 (enough for a change plus spare for top ups)

These days I do the change myself but my local place takes 25quid to do the change for me if I havent got time. Envy supply the materials BTW.

Brake fluid I use Motul 5.1 which is 5quid a bottle (enough for a full change)

... hope this helps

PS I know you can get cheaper filters etc ... but you can actually hear the difference ...
