I have the remote operated central locking and alarm (small rectangular fob with red button) and was told by the previous owner that it may be cat 1. Can anyone tell me if this is true? Also, out of curiosity, how does the immobiliser work? Previous cars I have owned had a small red chip within the key's body. Is something similar embedded in the fob and if so would this mean the car cannot be started without the fob in close proximity of the ignition?

All i can say is when i had a 1999 GT it came with a letter from Toyota saying it has a cat1 as standard.
