Expensive 60k Servicing

Hi all

I got a '99 RAV a few months ago and love it - great fun to drive. It's a high mileage example, with 120k on the clock but she still runs pretty sweetly. The small garage I bought it off said it had been serviced but I think that was just an oil change; after a few k more miles I think she needs a service. Problem is, Toyota is quoting well over £250 for the job as it needs the big service. I live in Cornwall near Newquay - does anyone know a good alternative in the SW for cheaper servicing? Haven't got time to do it myself (that and little expertise either ;)

Welcome to the forum Rob.

I seem to remember, in another post, that the 60k service involved a change of timing belt/chain and this could be why you've been quoted the high prive for the service. If you can let us all know if it's a petrol/diesel, I'm sure some one will be able to confirm that or not :D

I've just had my 60K service done at Mr T and the MOT and some warranty work (couple of little things etc) - anyway, they advised the following:-

AntiFreeze £75 + vat (they claimed the temp rating was at -15oC)

Cam Belts, Alternator Belt, PAS Belt £275 + vat

The 60K service was only £150 + vat

Took the car to a local garage who I trust more than a Mr T dealer, they replaced the belts for a total of £175 and they checked the AntiFreeze which (and they showed me the reading too!) showed it was good to -60oC!!!!!!!!

My 60k service (with discounted MOT!!) was £363 at Toyota Liverpool, Toyota Warrington quoted that just for the service.

On the check list there was no sign of any belts getting changed, the biggest thing replaced (apart from maybe spark plugs) was the rear window wiper, this was the only thing that it would have failed the MOT on!!! :censor:

I seem to remember there used to be a small Garage by a Supermarket with a Large Car Park in Newquay,the road led down and out by the Amusement Arcades,they did a bit of work for me while I was down there and they were good and cheap ;)

I had my Cambelt done and was Charged £67 by my Garage. :)
