I have a bog standard UK 94 Previa, and I want to fit an aftermarket cheapo radio (Pioneer KEH-P3730R).

Does my car have a seperate amp or can I just fit this radio without worrying about that?

Also anyone suggest a good online place/price for front pads?

Cheers

Hmmm, bugger it all!

I'll start from the beginning in the hope someone can help.....

My Previa was fitted with a standard Toyota Radio/Cassette, nothing special but ok for me since I'm not one for listening to my fave sounds in the car, radio is fine. That packed up, with the backlight permanantly on and no sounds or any other sign of life.

I was then given a Goodmans CD/MP3 player and foolishly got the garage to fit it. It worked well for a month or two but then crackled and popped. It seems to power-up - the cd drive spins and ejects but no display at all - blank.

Unwilling to spend a lot on this, I got another radio, Pioneer KEH-P3730R, and I'm now trying to wire it up but I fear the garage mob have hacked the wiring to force the Goodmans to work. So I dunno where to start.

I have removed the radio, and I now see a standard ISO connector spliced onto the original Toyota harness, and another weird connector which I thought may fit the original radio (I still have it) but it doesn't. It's a white 15-way with 13 wires. I have checked for a preamp but although I have a ECU in the passenger footwell I know that to be the ABS unit.

I've jury rigged the Pioneer up - assured it's working but I've not seen it so, but I'm getting nothing, perplexing!

Pads - www.buypartsby.co.uk - make sure to know the diameter of your disks - there are three different types and ABS or Non-ABS don't count for jack..!

If your car has the pre-amp it'll be mounted under the passenger glovebox, on the kick panel... it's covered over with a nice metal shroud...

Your stereo will work without the amp: The white 15-pin connector is for an alternate Radio unit and is the one that connects to the amp. The one the garage have butchered (shame, a loom adaptor is about £12 and allows you to swap radios, no sweat...) is for radios with built-in amps...

The connector/loom they've butchered will connect to an ISO connector as follows:

Power Connections - ISO "A" The Lower ISO Connector

+12V "Keep Alive" Supply - Blue/Yellow - ISO A, Pin 4

Auto Antenna - ??? - ISO A, Pin 5

Illumination - Dk Green - ISO A, Pin 6

+12V Accessory Supply - Grey - ISO A, Pin 7

Ground wire - Black - ISO A, Pin 8

Speaker Connections - ISO "B" The Upper ISO Connector

Right Rear Spkr (+) - Red - ISO B, Pin 1

Right Rear Spkr (-) - White - ISO B, Pin 2

Right Front Spkr (+) - Green - ISO B, Pin 3

Right Front Spkr (-) - Blue - ISO B, Pin 4

Left Front Spkr (+) - Pink - ISO B, Pin 5

Left Front Spkr (-) - Purple - ISO B, Pin 6

Left Rear Spkr (+) - Black - ISO B, Pin 7

Left Rear Spkr (-) - Yellow - ISO B, Pin 8

The colours are the Toyota wires, NOT the ISO wires... This should be OK for pre 87 Toyotas...

Good Luck...

Jeff
