BURN IT!!! id rather burn myself looool

Ok ... now ive got my plan for the bodykit Im kinda stuck on what to opt for paintwise. All I do know is I want an essentially black car(favourite absence of colour  ) I read a little thread a while ago by some cool guy who listed the kind of options available paintwise but it was kinda not easy to imagine some of the more 'posh' varieties of paintjob. As said before I really wouldnt like to own the sillyest looking mr2 in the UK but would like to have a nice 2 thats been rejuvenated tastefully.

Does anybody know of any websites that will allow people to select colours and effects and see what they look like?

Does anyone have any particular leanings towards particular types of black? or effects?

I cant afford anything as .... insane as spectraflair ...but I am really just looking at paintcosts for this part of the job so as long as the paint and any extras doesnt cost say.... above 600 then its possible(minor cost readjustments possible).

Am I truly being an optimist with this kind of price for paint in mind? No worries if I am just put me straight

If anyone can maybe give an example of how much paint, extras, cost(no time, just paint cost) it would be most greatfully appreciated

I quite like black with tiny flecks of gold, or blue (like a Midnight Black). It can give a real dimension to the paint in sunlight. I'm not talking flip paint, but something a bit more subtle than that - quite hard to describe! It would be good to know if the kind of website you want exsists. If not, you could perhaps get a friendly photoshopper to give it a go?

That sounds nice Caz  nice mental pic i have

Reg todays win conditions Ive done well today... considering i had the niggling feeling it was gonna be fall at the first post time(eg. no im not respraying it let alone bodykit and fancy paint etc.). Mi dad seems to have calmly established the bodykit is going to be only a moderate amount of work more than repainting the plastic bumpers, and if hes wrong im not correcting him  And the respray is looking like its on... start of things to be announced for me yet  but im eager to get moving on it all...

The one slight flaw in my ideal plan(i will live  ) ...that isnt over till its over ;) ... is that regarding paint hes said its gonna be standard or metalic without extras as they are "a pain in the bum to do well and evenly... as if black isnt bad enough to do anyway!" ...so all in all its a good result but theres time and effort to make it 'excellent'

so given the present conditions its standard paint or metallic.... metallic for some reason is appealing to me ... really not sure why but if anyone has any strong feelings about standard or metalic black pls post away :)

and if anyone has any good rational suggestions or tips for how to do the effects easilly then ;) that would be cool too :D

He also estimated the cost of materials for painting chassis and kit at about 400-600 so maybe I can afford 'poshness' if he relents and will give it a go ;)

anyway this goes, as long as it goes ahead, atm i cant lose... its gonna look way better resprayed than it currently does.... insurance is looking like the only potential major stumbling block now

You may recall seeing Flambys posts of his Mums car, AKA Tango 2. Thats right the bright, make that very bright orange rev2, The paint job was done by Armstrongs of Cricklade, they are vehicle restoration and customising specialists who a dont rip you off. and b are really great guys who care about their creations. The paint job in straight colour, preperation , screen out , dismantalling and reassembly with loads of TLC cost 2.5K including Gordons chunk. they did offer to dust it with gold flake before applying the 2 lacquer coats but I declined, and we saved that trick for the Volks wheels it now has, these were acid bathed, 2 coats of Gloss Black and then dusted before receiving 2 coats of lacquer, the refurb and paint of the wheels cost about 650, plus the wheels which came from Mick Sherry in Glasgow 2nd hand and complete with mud from a runoff area of the Nurburgring. Armstrongs even dismantalled the engine cover as it is very difficult to get it to look right without doing that. I know that Wigan is a long way from Swindon , but when you get quality it can be worth the drive, particurlarly in a 2. Do think carefully before thowing your money at a blow over merchant, A good 2 deservesTLC, if the price is a little more than you really wanted to pay, talk to your bank, because you will really save in the long run. See you at JAE.

ps Armstrongs can be contacted on 01793 752800.

I have no financial interest in Armstrongs , I just like to recommend great service, and whilst on that subject a big thanks to Sextons in Swindon for the wheels on our other 2, and to Torque systems and the South West Wheels guys in Clevedon for suppling the nuts that Mick forgot to send until lastr week.

Cheers guys.

Metalic black dude. the same on what goes on either the yaris which i think the paint code is 209. forgive me if i'm wrong i haven't painted a car in a while. also ford do one called panther black. this a very nice colour and when the sun is on it, it shows the metal flake off very good.

Seeing as you have a black car to start with, you will get away with only painting the outside of it. you will need about 2-3 liters of basecoat( this is the metalic paint) this can cost anywhere between £50-£100 depends where you go. also if you can get it in either SPIES HECKER, STANDOX, LECHLER, or MAX MEYER. all of these are very good paints all i used to use. you will need 5 liters of laquer, 2 1/2 liters of activator or hardener and about the same in thinners. Remember to go for 2k paint or 2 pack as it's called. this is miles better than cellulose and synthetic paint. the latter two will give you huge problems i'e, dulling of the laquer, durability and when you fill up with fuel, the fuel will strip the paint. with two pack this wont happen. hope you get it sorted and this advise is worth anything to you.

Oh nearly forgot. if you have plenty of loot you can buy a paint called spectra flair, when the car is in the sun it will have a metallic look and also show off a rainbow across your car. Downside is it's dear. about 500-600 notes per liter and you will need at least 2 to do a full car.
