How any miles can you expect from a 99 1.8 Avensis before you start to have major problems? mine have now done 95k with full service history and cam belt changed at 65k.

I've got 110k on mine and have just developed a leak somewhere near the water pump (at least thats my guess as I can't get to it, it's somewhere near the timing belt). I'm hoping it will hold out until I get the belt changed and I'll get the garage to fix it whilst it has the covers and pulleys off.

Other than that I've had no probs so far apart from an Astra trying to get into the boot last year, it's never been quite the same since the rear end was replaced.

My 99 1.8 is a shade under 80,000 miles and is having the cambelt (not changed at 60 but has lasted) and clutch replaced as we speak. As yours has done more miles I'll keep an eye on what everyone else says so I know what to expect !!

My '99 Avensis has done 135K. In the years I've had it, the only unexpected costs were a headlamp bulb and a windscreen washer motor

The old 1.8's are bullet proof, I know of several all topping 150k only problems seem to be gearboxes around this type of mileage and clutch's.

Are these at Toyota specified oil changes, or more frequent ones e.g. every 5000 miles / 6 months as recommended by many car enthusiasts? (Most manufacturer oil changes tend to be generous these days compared to 6,000 miles of 10 years ago, some say in order to satisfy the fleet buyers and reduce running costs in the first 3 years of the car's life, but perhaps doesn't do wonders for it's longer term longevity).

Would be interesting to know who has the highest mileage vvti engine avensis!!!

We've had a few 2.0 vvt-i rav's and avensis in the place i work with 125k plus. Not seen any 1.8 vvt-i's with that type of miles seen the odd few with 70-80k but they tend to be using oil at a rapid rate. I'm gussing they have not had the new short block replacement.

My car is a 98 Avensis still being used as a taxi in Sheffield (roads are terrible here) anyway it has done 245k and problems so far was a shaft in the g/box about 180ish 1 clutch since i bought it with 40k on, recently i replaced the rear anti row bar links with the front ones needing doing soon.

Some little niggley things needed doing like a ignition switch and the s/roof stuck open but this is small to say this car is used every day with all of people in and out this has been the best car i know of!!

Just hope the new d4d avensis are as good!
