Who Has The Oem Toyota Bluetooth Kit?

The other day I got myself the Toyota bluetooth kit and today I installed it myself.

So this isn't a pointless thread if nobody know anything I shall tell you how it went installing it:

First of all the instructions said that it will take 1h to install - it took me about 2h

I started first with installing the mic - simple I though, popped of the light, attached it to the roof lining and tried to thread the cable through the roof lining.

Could I :censor:

There was no way I could get it through and sometimes it got jammed and took me 15 minutes to get it back out again :ffs: . In the end I popped the end through at the top off the mirror where it meets the windscreen and traced it all the way along the top just behind the fabric. When I got to the corner (left hand side) during the manufacturing process when they had put the windscreen in, it had melted the rubber to the fabric .... so in the end I had to yank it off  This took me ages to do and was the most consuming part of the whole install.

The next stage was to take off the side pillar and it was simple, I just traced the wire down the pillar and cable tied it along the way. Next I took the glove box out and threaded it to the center console.

After that I installed the button bits, this was dead easy. Just unscrewed one screw just above the speedo, gave it yank and it came out. I made a small hole in the bottom corner and fitted it back. 2 minutes job

After that I remove the whole center console ...... who's idea was it to attach the cd player with bolts rather than screws :ffs: Took me 20 minutes to make my own tools using sticky tape  But once that was done it was simple. I plugged in all the cables and turned it on and it worked :D :D

So in all it was very easy to do - just a pain in the **** to install the mic.

The only problem that I have is the mute cable. I connected up the cable to pin 6 and it didn't mute, I also connected it to several other pins and it still didnt mute. Currently my system sounds like it turns off the front Speakers for the phone and turns down the volume for the ones in the back.

In all I am very happy with it although I would like to get the mute feature to work ....... so does anybody have any ideas? Or does somebody who has the bluetooth kit with the mute feature working check out which pin it is connected to for us

Cheers

Dave

I will get some pics up later of the back of the HU for the pins ;)

Hi,

the mute wire has to connect to the CD-Changer socket! (see picture)

Cheers for the help mate ...... but as you can see from the pics I don't have the 12 pin input from that diagram.

I take it that the pin is shown in the first picture and not the second picture, so any idea which one?

I will have a fiddle in a bit as I forgot to plug my aerial cable back in :lol:

This site may be of interest to you or anybody else wanting to install a Toyota accessory.

I still haven't got around to the mute pin yet, but I might have a go later or over the weekend ;)

Out of interest...How much did it cost?

I got mine from eBay for £110 inc delivery .... Mr T wanted something stupid like £350, but a similar device without the Toyota logo can be bought for £120

DaveSR: do you also need to seperately buy the tele-mute audio loom to route the incoming audio through the car Speakers? I've ordered the Motorola HF850 already, but this comes with a seperate speaker which I would prefer not to have to find a home for.

Thanks

I didn't buy any extra cable for my kit.

On the wiring loom there was a wire which had no plug/connector on the end, this is labled as the mute cable in the instructions and needs to be spliced/connected to the correct pin for the mute feature to work.

As I have meantioned above - my system currently turns off the front Speakers and plays the telephone call through them and continues playing the music through the rear Speakers.

To mute the music I either have to turn down the volume or turn off the cd player, this is a tempory situation and I hope to be able to find the correct pin for the mute function to work correctly.

You also say that your kit comes with a speaker - I have noticed before that you have to specify which car you have so that they can supply you the correct wiring loom. I guess you shall have to wait till the kit comes so that you can see how it goes together and see whether you need it or not.

I hope this helps

Dave
