10/40 semi synthetic is recommended.

I use Comma Diesel Lite 10-40 SS.

Well i went to toyota for the genuine parts and oil all the parts were labeled up TOYOTA anyway the oil he gave me was texico havoline 10w 40 semi sinthetic so i gave it him back and got fully sinthetic to a higher api spec from a motor factor for less ££££

I think the proper spec from the manul for d4d is 10w 30 api cf-4

i got 10w 40

api ch-4 is better than cf-4

the bloke at toyota parts desk said they put 10w 40 in everything although manuel said 10w 30...

anyway this is the link to api just click on the service catogory link for there 2 page pdf guide

I quote from my Owners Manual (2003 car)

Oil grade CF-4 or CF or API CE or CD

5W-30 is preferred (especially for cold conditions below -18C)

otherwise 15W-40, 10W-30 or 5w-30

so 10W-40 fits the specification..

And there was me thinking diseasels used crude!

Just read your manual for the grade and generally synthetic is best. But if you change the grade or type of oil, make sure you flush out the old and change the filter too or it'll have no effect what-so-ever!
