Air Conditioning

Hi guys, I recently took my car to an air conditioning specialist (south wales saab specialists), I assumed that the reason it was not working is because it needed re-gassing, i was wrong. There was still gas left in the compressor, about half full, He checked the switch and that worked fine, but when he went to put the switch back in, before he put it back in he said that when he checked the fuse in the passenger foot-well, there was power going to it, but when he put the switch back in and turned it on, the fuse didnt pop, but there was no power going to the fuse, i have no idea, he said it is more than likely a short somewhere causing this problem, any ideas anyone asap, as i have chronic hayfever and air-con is a god send in this weather lol

electricity scares me as i dont really get it but... are you saying that it worked when he had the switch out?

If so maybe its lookin like the switch, the contacts or the wires that are under stress when the switch gets moved... If your like me and ... well a bit numb when it comes to those things then maybe a shop that fault finds would be able to sort it.

Hope you get it sorted mate... hayfever sucks

He's a specialist, I'm not, but if the air con is half full of gas there surely isn't enough to pressurise the system - and therefore the aircon system doesn't kick in (keeps switched off to prevent damage to the system)?

But presumably he did top up your gas?

half full ? only way he knew that is if he removed the gas into a recovery bottle and weighed it. then should have recharged it with approx .85kg r134a after vaccing down to remove any moisture.did he recharge the system and try it as normally quite reliable.
