Same Sorta Question Ive Asked, But More About The Aygo

are aygo's worth it for the free insurance? mean my fez would cover the deposit and around £150 is what id like on finance and can easily afford it, but compared to my fez, would it be worth down grading(sorta)? ,

i do want to try jap reliability on much better cars, but i like the idea of free insurance, especially when i could do with saving some money :P .

its either that or look away from jap for the time being and get a mini one :D or look away from toyota and get a colt.

or do you think i should just bother with my fez til end of year then look at jap cars??.

more difficult to decide this time round because its almost the end of the week and this is the time i was planning on changing

Eh!, what's a Fez. To me it's a hat worn by North Africans or Tommy Cooper!!!

I had a MINI ONE for 2 years from new. Although a brilliant fun car, mine was a dog. Never out of the garage and the interior was so rattly for a "premium" car it was a joke.

They are also very expensive for what they are, not great on fuel ecomony and the insurance will way more than the Aygo.

fez is short for fiesta :P

mini one costs the same to insure as a 1.5 paseo which is only 60 quid more than my fiesta  and i really like mini's even the rover ones :D .

ive come to this site hoping be part of the toyota family, but its been slowly drifting apart as i cant afford what i want and dont know what else i can afford that is better than what ive suggested :( .

i think the aygo's are cool and look fun, but only have one for the free insurance, but dont know if i could put up with another slow car

Can you get a MINI ONE now for the price of an Aygo? I would strongly advise avoiding any MINI prior to about 03 reg.

I've just ordered a 107. Bear with me while I explain the figures;

Citroen C1 vibe - £135/mo IIRC. No bells, no whistles, just £800 cashback which was used as a deposit for the finance.

Citroen C1 rhythm - £160/mo.

Citroen C1 vibe with free insurance on "drivenow". About £190/mo. Even the salesman agreed that it was a joke.

Aygo - £159 with free servicing and insurance as advertised everywhere.

Aygo+ - £169 as above.

107 (similar spec to aygo+/rhythm) - £159/mo, no bells no whistles.

My insurance, £300 for year 1.

All quotes are no deposit, 3 years, pcp schemes (balloon payment at the end).

What this meant to me was that I could get the higher spec car (107) with my own insurance, £60 cheaper than the aygo with insurance & servicing. Also Peugeot gave me a better spec by throwing in goodies that no-one else would, such as a glovebox lid and rev counter (aygo sport? no thanks!).

Sure, servicing will be more than £60, but it was worth it. What swung me, in order was;

a) My local toyota salesmen were all ubiks. None of them called me back, ever, and all acted as if I was wasting their time. Perhaps it would be different in the lexus side, but I doubt it.

B) The looks of the C1/107 were nicer than the aygo imo. YMMV

c) The spec of the pug. Rev counter for £30? Yes please, I can't get one on eBay for that.

d) The pug dealer was a proper salesman willing to deal with me and sell me a car there and then.

e) That nagging doubt that peugeot will have a better resale value than citroen, though not as good as toyota.

Which you choose is up to you, but I think the free insurance is only when you take out the deal of £159 deposit, £159 payments... I'm not sure where that leaves your fez which will be worth way more than £159. Perhaps that money could be used on insurance.

Mk6FiestaBoy, I'm gonna attempt to answer a few of your questions. Here goes:

Insurance: Depending on your age and the cost of your insurance depends on whether it is worth buying an Aygo. I would say if you are paying around £1000 a year for your Fiesta insurance then yes, do it. Also, if you are on your parents insurance for your Fiesta then it is worth getting your own policy to build up your no claims, so again, buy an Aygo!

Fiesta versus the Aygo: I don't know how old your Fiesta is, or what model, but I have had 2 Fiesta ST's and my Fiance has a 2005 1.25 Zetec Climate, so I think I can give you a good comparison! Firstly, I'm going to assume you don't have the newly facelifted Fiesta.

The Fiesta feels much more grown up inside, but the qualities of the plastics aren't that great, so it's on a par with the Aygo. The stereo in the Fiesta is much better than the Aygo, it goes a lot louder and it puts out a fair amount of bass. No MP3 connection though. The Aygo's air con is better, but probably because it has a smaller area to cool down! I'm really missing having a leather steering wheel. I find The Aygo's rubber wheel gets quite sweaty. Useable interior space is pretty even on both cars. Rear leg room is about equal, but the Fiesta does seat 5. The boot is huge on the Fiesta. The Aygo's boot size isn't too bad, but I find it awkward to access. As are the rear seats, as the front seats in the Aygo do not return to their original position. The seats of both cars are comfortable, but I think the Aygo seats could do with some more lateral support.

The performance difference of the Aygo and 1.25 Fiesta are very similar. The Aygo actually feels faster, but I have a favourite stretch of road where I measure acceleration between a roundabout and a sign post. The Aygo gets to about 47mph at the sign post, the Fiesta 1.25 about 50mph and my ST got to about 60!

Driving fun. I find the 1.25 Fiesta very boring to drive. The engine has no tune whatsoever and it feels underpowered. The Aygo on the other hand feels really nippy and the engine sounds really good and likes to be revved. You can have a lot of fun in the Aygo at sensible speeds. The ST was a very capable car, but to even approach it's limits meant driving waaaay over the speed limits or stupidly fast around bends.

I don't know exactly how much fuel the 1.25 Fiesta uses, but it is more thirsty than the Aygo.

On the reliability stakes, remember that the Aygo is not actually a Japanese car as such. Mine had to go back to the dealers to have a few things sorted out and I think it will need a few things replacing over the 3 years I intend to own it. My Fiesta's have all been generally reliable, but they did need the odd trip back to the dealers to have things looked at. Servicing costs at Ford are not as cheap as you would expect. First services around here costing around £150. So in the long-term the Aygo servicing package should be worth the cost.

I have also owned a MINI. I bought one of the very first Cooper S in july 2002. At the time I loved it, but now everyone has a MINI. The fuel economy is a joke. And they are very expensive. Again, mine wasn't without it's problems, but I hear they have improved reliability and quality on the newer cars.

If I was in your position what would I do? Firstly I wouldn't buy a MINI. Too expensive. Too Common. and you'll be buying quite an old one. They are complex cars and I wouldn't like to have one out of warranty. Would I keep the Fiesta? Possibly. I find the 1.25 quite a boring car, but it is roomier and better equipped than the Aygo. Would I buy an Aygo? Probably. Depends what your priorities are and how the car will be used. The Aygo is perfect for my daily commute, but I wouldn't want fancy being in it for more that a couple of hours at a time. Having said that, it is cheap to buy, economical, cheap to run, looks great and is really fun to drive.

If I were you I would sit down and work out which car is going to cost you less to run (if that is a priority) and then I would go and test drive an Aygo. Then drive your Fiesta along the same route and see which you prefer.

All just my opinion, but I hope it helps.

I might have mixed up the aygo n yaris deal with my car covering the deposit  . As nice as the 107 is, im not too sure on the looks as that grill looks like a big mouth lol.

That was a very good review, thanks :D  .

Even tho its standard i like how my car can be chucked about on corners and use the racing line on particular round abouts despite some roll . I will admit i do enjoy i fiesta, just now wished i couldve afford the 1.4/1.6 :( . Servicing at ford was going to cost £130, but i went idependent as it was much cheaper :) and ive only taken the car in for engine problems(still a problem) and it was covered by the warrenty, but that now ends this month so dont know how much things will cost(tho new sterring wheel costs around £150  ) . Fuel could be better, but the car is abit underpowered due to being heavy and insurance isnt bad tho at just under 1k, it aint good enough. When sitting in a aygo i didnt feel supported, even in the new yaris. Rear space doesnt bother me as i mainly drive alone, plus at some point either car will be losing back seats  . Boot space doesnt bother me much as ive only done shopping twice in my life lol, but as long as a sub n amp will fit then thats good enough. My rear lights use to rattle after i took them out to change a bulb and my dash does rattle now n then. Dont know what the aygo sound stereo is like, but ive got an after market HU in the fez so would sound differently. Insurance will continue to be in my own name and the aygo(non sport) is less than £900, but would only go for the free insurance deal. My priority to have the aygo is just to save money on insurance, but it be the sport id want and dont know if they do deals for them.

Apart from the engine problems and performance, i got no problems with the fez and still be happy to own one(tho bigger engine), ST is too much otherwise id have one  . At some point i do want a jap car as they better all round, but its just finding one that i wont regret  . Id opt for the 1.6 fez, but it was a pain to change HU and dont fancy doing that again and on a more expensive car.

My fiesta is 2003 1.25 LX :) and its the one without abs, a/c and anything elses added at that time :( , but i brought it used so couldnt get options.

Just a little advice, don't buy any car without checking it out carefully by reading as much as you can about it and of course, getting a decent test drive and deal.

Buying a car just because you want one fairly quickly isn't a good idea, you may soon regret it and you're stuck.

Also, remember, a new car comes with horrible depreciation. My car is not worth anwhere near the almost £10k I paid for it. Personally, I don't care as the interest free credit means it's paid for next March and I can then do the same again if I wish. Do your maths, free insurance is attractive but paying for the insurance on a pre-registered car may work out cheaper. My last Yaris was pre-registered (only used as a car to take a car salesman to and from the dealership) and a beautiful little car it was too.

Make a list of what you want the car for. I've always fancied an Audi TT but I can see how useful that would be when I decamp for breaks at my caravan and have to take clothes, etc. for six weeks! Having an iPod now means I don't have to take a load of CDs with me but all my other stuff still needs to fit somewhere.

Are fuel costs a consideration? The Aygo and it's sisters certainly do well in that department.

Is the car for show, go or, everyday usage? Many of us might like to pose but the world has to be a practical place for us all, at times. A lot of people with sportier cars have (or have access to) an ordinary hatch, saloon or whatever for everyday use.

Oh and one more thing...

There isn't one single roundabout in Britain that has a racing line.

cheapest mini one ive seen is between £6500-£7000, but thats with 70k-80k miles and ones with 50 or less are between £7500-£8000  and strangely its the same for the cooper

EDIT:

i want a car with better pull at high speeds  , aslong as the MPG isnt below 30(well 25) then i got no worries about fuel. i use my car daily, mainly for work tho at night time, but would be nice to have a nicer car to cruise round in :P . only reason im looking at jap atm(despite liking the cars etc) is for reliablity purposes, theres other cars ive been looking at that would give me what im looking for(posing wise not always the case), example a getz 1.6 sport as thats the only car ive test drove and despite the image, it is a very nice car to drive  . Just that ive come here asking about toyota's i like etc and dont wanna feel like ive wasted ya times if i get something else :P .

i know theres no racing lines on roundabouts :P , i just used that term to describe how i drive round particular ones when its not busy .
