Stereo Problems

OK, so the car is now starting to pee me off. Latest problem (after the O2 sensor, squeaky alternator belt tensioner, and the air bag light coming on at the weekend) is the most serious of all...........the stereo!

It's a 2001CDX with radio/tape player in the dash and 6 disc changer in the boot.

On the way to Tesco last night and the CD I was listening to just stopped playing. Couldn't switch to tape or radio, but the CD time kept counting up as if it was still playing the disc. I could even swap disks in the changer or skip tracks but wasn;t outputting sound. The trip computer/sat nav etc still work it just won;t play music.

If I turn the engine off and restart it the stereo works fine for 5-10 minutes and then cuts out. If listening to the radio the display stays on but the sound goes off, if I then try to switch to something else it's the same as above it will play the CD silently until I next stop-restart the engine.

Also noticed that the steering wheel stereo control now only works intermitantly

PLEASE HELP!!!! The 2 hour journey to and from work is bad enough but to have to do it without music is a killer!

Cheers!

Mike.

Had someone look at my stereo, and it's working again. Apparantly these stereos can suffer from dry joints on the sockets at the back. He's resoldered them and it's working like a good 'un!

Also he said that they run very hot as well, and sometime the main controller can die. They are made by Fujitsu and they won;t release the scematics, so it's very difficult for third parties like him to repair them.
