Faulty Corolla Aerial...?

Hi all,

Not been on the forums in a while... but I'm having a bit of an issue with my 2002 Corolla's aerial.

I can't get any AM reception through it at all! Normally it doesn't bother me, FM radio is fine... but with the World Cup taking place now, I'd like to be able to get Radio 5 etc.

I've taken out the stock head-unit and installed a Kenwood MD unit (with CD changer). I have the aerial lead plugged in correctly to the head-unit, but still nothing. I even stripped out the head-unit yesterday to see if I missed a connection, but nope. Every cable and connection is in place.

Am I missing something or do I need another kind of aerial or something...? I've tried a search on Google for AM aerial connectors for kenwood head-units but no luck.

Advice and help will be appreciated.

Atik

Not much help - however what I would do is:

Take the HU out and put the old one in or another one in a see if it works

Or take out your HU and try it with a different aerial ie in a different car

Good point DaveSR, and I should have mentioned that I did do that at one point.

I used to have a Kenwood motorised screen head-unit, which also didnt get any AM reception. When that got nicked, I re-installed my stock head-unit, and I got reception on that fine. I then bought my current MD player a few months after.

It seems that its just the aftermarket head-unit that doesn't work with my aerial.

Thanks for pointing that out. I must conclude then that the aerial is incompatible with my head-unit.

How easy is it to re-fit an aerial in the car?

(PS - Sorry, this should have been in the Audio forum area)

i also can't get MW/AM reception on my sony headunit at all.

don't know if it worked on the OEM headunit as i never tried it.

i reckon it's either the aerial or the connector that toyota use that is causing the problem.
