Japanese Imported Colorado

I have an imported( Japanese) Toyota Colorado age 1997. The vehicle recently displayed an intermittent problem, whereby the automatic gear box would not change up using normal engine revs, it required the engine to be raced to achieve gear change. This symptom was intermittent, and would manifest itself with the engine hot or cold. As such we feel the problem is electronic in nature.

I have had the vehicle in at a garage specialising in automatic transmissions, unfortunately, the fault codes for imported vehicles are different from those European vehicles, does anyone have any idea how we could obtain the japanese fault codes for this type of vehicle?

Better still has anyone else suffered similar problems with an imported Colorado?

I have a 1995 Land Cruiser Amazon Japanese Import.

I don't know if the self diagnosis codes are different depending on country of manufacture for the Amazon, but my Haynes manual gives fault codes and the procedure for obtaining them by using a jumper wire onto the diagnostics interface in the engine compartment, then count the number of flashes on the O/D lamp. :)

It's highly likely that the Haynes manual for your Colorado will give similar instructions. It's worth a try considering the low cost of these manuals compared to Toyota publications! (Just ordered a Toyota Electrical Manual for £46.30!)
