What Kind Of Alloys?

Hi so I need to replace my alloys as I smashed one of them alongside a curb

I think I currently have 205-55 zr 16inch wheels. I read that an audi owner

replaced his 16inch wheels with 17inch is there a reason for this? Does anyone

know what specs I have to follow in finding replacement wheels ie. why cant I but

audio wheels? etc?

Thanks for any feedback.

Cindy

the main reason for buyer a larger alloy size is for looks, although it may slow the car down very slightly and the ride will not be as smooth. larger alloys are more expensive, and so are the tyres for them.

dont know about the other q's

generally it wont change the speed of the car as you should try to keep the rolling radius of the wheel the same. As said above though its done for looks, people like the wheels to fill the arches more so they often put larger wheels with thinner tyres on and lower the suspension.

With larger alloys you obviosuly have less tyre to absorb bumps so the ride comfort is reduced.

On chav-mobiles like corsas they quite often end up having to increase the rolling radius as the larger wheels are bigger than the original wheels + tyres - this causes lots of problems such as - bottoming out, rubbing, reduced turning circle, inaccurate speedo, decreased acceleration.

Go to a decent alloy wheel shop nearby and ask them what alloys they have for you car.

The first thing to look at is how many stud holes you have in your wheels (4 or 5) so that will narrow the choice down a bit, then you have to look at offset - the offset moves the wheel in and out of the car. Different manufactures have different offsets - thats one reason why you cant use other cars alloys. Then you have the PCD which is basically the distance that the studs are apart. You also have hub size.

I personally would stick with 16" alloys and get a set designed for the Celica or atleast Toyota - avoid the gen 7 celica wheels as although they will fit they will corrode unless you get them properly coated

Hi .

Try e-bay for celica alloys , i would recomend a set of 17inch alloys , they do look a lot  better and to be honest the difference in ride comfort is minimal :D

p.s kerbs are bad for alloys....AVOID :P

depends what your celica is, mean if its performance like the 1.8 ST then stick with smaller wheels, but if its more powerful then you can get away with bigger wheels as it wont slow you down as much

ive got a 1.25 fiesta and i had 17's and it made my car handle better(which is a key factor), but i did feel the lack of accleration more

I dont think the acceleration will be noticable, most cars can easily have 17's on without any gearing issues as the low profile tyre can make up for the larger rim.

whether its a ST or GT4 go with 17's!!!!!

Sotal it is possible to use different Manufacturers wheels but in regards to which will fit a Celica I dont know, and TBH probably more trouble than its worth. I'd go with some of the newer Toyota designs but stay away from the 16' Gen 7 wheels as said above (I have a set on my car that have no bubbling at all but alot of people and even toyota admit their a b@stard for corroding)

Hi there.

So many differing opinions!

Well since we are all still debating, I would like to continue this thread....

I found out that the 16" wheels I am looking at are from a LEXUS. They seem to

have 5 holes for nuts or whatever they are called. The calculator that someone

posted a link to is TOTALLY beyond my comprehension. So if I post the make

model and year of that lexus could someone here help by telling me if the wheels

will fit my celica 95? Thank you SOOO much.

PS. If anyone has older FOX racing alloys (1-2) they want to get rid of etc,

please let me know soon.

Thanks...

Cindy

Lexus wheels *should* fit as Lexus and Toyota are the same company. If you are buying from a decent shop they will make sure they fit so you can't really go wrong.

As for Fox alloys - I'm not sure if it's me or not but I've always seen Fox alloys as being a bit of a cheapy make. I had a set that came on a previous car and they were like butter. The Momo alloys that came on the Celica seem to be made of a much tuffer alloy which resists curbing alot more.

In that case wait for a couple more replies just to confirm the Lexus wheels will fit - I'm about 95% sure they will fit. What size are they??
