Smell From Air-conditioner

Hi

Everytime I get in my Yaris (after about 24 hours), there's this really horrible smell, a bit like dog sh ite.

At first, I thought it was the upholstery, but it wasn't.

Then I thought I'd turn on the Air Con., and lo and behold, the stink was coming from there !

Is this normal or is there a problem wit the Air Con. ? (although it seems to be working fine).

Please can someone tell me how to get rid of the nasty stink - it looks as if a dog's had a lovely dump in my car.

Thanks.

I had the same problem although mine smelt like ice cream  !

To help stop the problem from re-occuring you are supossed to turn off your aircon for a few minutes and leave the normal air setting on so that it drys the pipes out, rather than just turning it off

When i use to drive the 1.0 ltr gls, i use to turn off the air con alot coz the car wouldn;t move half the time and i found the air to be unpleasent....... slight smell and completely the opposite to refreshing, kinda sticky. Why's that?

you need a tin of COMMA AIR CON SPRAY it kills mould build up in the condensor and inner pipework.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/COMMA-Car-Air-Condit...1QQcmdZViewItem

Sounds fair that the aircon. system need a cleanup now and then. But WHERE do I spray? Can I reach the condensor (or wherever the smell is comming from) whitout dismanteling the whole system??

My 2005 Corolla 1,4 D4D had the smell of old dust miksed with the toxic stink from forbidden kemical weapons when I used the airconditioningsystem for the first time this summer.....

I’ve seen air con anti bacterial products in Halfrauds.

Put the air con on full, open the packet and leave for X amount of time (10/20 minutes)

It kills the bacteria and leaves a fresh fragrance...

Like this...

and this...

I've only tried my air con a couple of times & I've noticed the air was cold but musty smelling. I've not looked at the filter yet, but I'll give it a clean.

For the products mentioned where exactly do they need spraying?

Be careful your not confusing the smell with that of the cat, a common mistake. In fact I used to have a peugeot XND and a neighbours cat got locked in it one night, not only did it scratch my seats and door panels but the mucky little bugger dropped a !Removed! under the passenger seat. Cat poo plus warm summer weather does not a good mix maketh.

When we do an a/c service we use an a/c system cleaner that you spray over the pollen filter and it has a long tube that you push into the vents and spray inside.

Also check your pollen filter isnt dirty. :)

I tried running it for a few minutes and the damp smell seemed to go away after a minute or so. I've still to check the filter. :!Removed!:
