I've just got my first Toyota,a 1997 Celica 1.8 ST problem is the remotes only unlock,they don't lock or turn on the alarm,anyone got any ideas,I havn't got a manual yet so don't know where relays etc are.

Howdee matey,

The remotes can be coded into rcl ecu. The ecu is behind the centre console/radio surround and is cable-tied to the air ducts. Once removed, use a pair of pliers to lift up the protective shield on the ecu. You should see a green button. Sit inside the car with the ignition 'on' and press the green button. The red security indicator should light up. Once light is on, press BOTH fob buttons at the same time until the ecu relay clicks. Press the green button again and repeat above sequence if you are coding more than one fob in.

Thanks for the info but, I got impatient and ripped the alarm out and fitted a Toad system instead.I didn't realise how loud the original siren was until I played with the wiring and couldn't stop the darn thing or get the old rusty screws off, much to the annoyance of my neighbours(so sorry).
