Down On Power

Hi all

I have an st205 gt4. When I boot it it doesn't seem to go as quickly as it should. The standard boost gauge still reads as it always did (over the max)

Its as if the boost comes in ok but there is something stopping the power inceasing and it feels hesitant.

The other day I was driving down a dual carraigeway in second gear at about 30mph, I floored it and it accelerates, just not as quick as it should, then it seemed to fix itself and fly, like a sudden surge of power that isnt normally there. Then at the next set of lights it was back to its old self, and hesitant again.

Its really frustrating cos don't know alot about these cars yet and dont want to get raped by some garage.

Please help

TBh i dont know if this helps but my mk1 gti had a similar problem , seems to hesitate(occasionaly) before accelerating then went fine . I'm sure the problem was dirt in the fuel line that kept clogging the system up...my tank was emptied flushed and a few other things done and it fixed the problem .

Valid point that. When was the fuel filter changed last??

You should have a look at the wastegate actuater too. May be sticking. Good excuse to buy an uprated one.:thumbsup:

As above really if not changed recently do all of the following:

Dizzy Cap + Rotor Arm

HT Leads

Spark Plugs

Fuel Filter

Fuel System Cleaner

Take off the Charge Cooler and give it a good clean out with some petrol

Also check the wastegate actuator, pipes for any cracks/splits, check all the connection are secure.

:thumbsup::yes:

Hi again,

I took the gt4 to Clive Atthowe tuning in Norwich. A nice reputable place.

Told him my symptoms, so he ran it on the rollers and tested every possible thing. Everything was as should be and its actually putting out 10bhp more than the last rr session at the same place.

He was actually very impressed by it as a standard car putting 266.9 bhp aqnd 233 lb ft torque.

He reckoned I may have had problems with heat soak, due to the nice weather we have been experiencing down in sunny Lincolnshire. On my way back from Norwich to Lincoln last night, the car felt awesome. Really strong, realised it was actually quite cold and it had been humid all day, so perfect conditions for a turbo car.

The car keeps me smiling, which is good.

Bring on my Apexi power intake!

Thanks for all your suggestions

Richie K
