Aftermarket Stereos In A 96 Rav4

Recommended Posts

Thinking of sticking a new headunit in the rav and have a question.

The cage for the stereo appears to sit further back than the dash panel at the front. An i missing something?? How do you fit the stereos surround with the stereo not sitting flush?

If you take off the cover around the stereo fascia (two screws) you will see that the stereo is held in by two mounting brackets.

If you choose the right brand of aftermarket stereo, you will be able to re-use these brackets and have the stereo mounted in just the same way. This stops you having to use a cage. Also, the stereo will sit back in the dash properly as the original one did.

An alpine stereo will fit correctly just like this, i've just taken one out of mine with iPod control. And it looks quite good too.
