Hi all,

I've been umming and arring over my P6000s since getting my 2000 Roadster and I'm not convinced they're the best around  . One of my mates has a variety of cars from a V5 Passat to the Mazda Eunos and he doesn't rate the P6000 at all.

When they need replacing I want to change them. I can get a P6000 for around £45-£50 each so I am looking at the same sort of budget.

Any suggestions much appreciated :D

Not sure about the mk3 .... but I use Falken 512s on my mk2.... and been pretty happy with them.... also Nexen tyres are pretty good... those are the more 'budget' tyres methinks :)

I've always been happy running Yoko's on mine and I think they were around £70 each but it's like everything, you get what you pay for.

I'm sure DaVY (cfc1) will be able to give you more information

I have been quoted £90 for one P6000 (after some nasty person slashed my tyre :censor: )so I don't want to appear a skin flint! Just my husband knows the garage owner.

Are Avons any good on a Roadster? I did have them on my Type R and found them excellent.

As standard on my Roadster is 185/55x15 (front and 215/46x16 (rear) Yokohama Advan A043..

Now these tyres come in 2 types..

Yokohama A403 .. and

Yokohama A403 MR2

The "MR2" specific tyre has a slightly different rubber compond that was developed especialy for the "2" and are probably the best bet for it.

I have since changed my rims to 17" all round, and after a bit of searching around for what i feel to be the best option now i deceided to go for Yokohama Parada Spec-2 (Closest compound and Spec to the A403.. just a sports version kind of thing)

Another good option would be Toyo or Goodyear F1's... but i still feel that the A403 would be the best on the standard wheels.

Avons.. never used them, but have received a lot of posotive feedback about the ZV3's

  • 3 weeks later...

Oakey dokey,

I've found Yokos for around £80 a tyre online (is this about right before I ring my Husband's mate), but I am considering changing my horribly corroded alloys to larger ones like 17". Does this affect the milometre? And will the car handle better? I know it's going to be a firmer ride but hey, it's an MR2! ;)

Don't go bigger than 17" (i have 205/40x17 on the front and 215/40x17 on the rear) Tyre pressures.. i found 26psi front and 29psi in the rear suited mine best.

Try not to mix your tyres, keep the same make and pattern on all 4 wheels, i have heard that mixing them can affect the handling (no personal experiance of this myself.. maybe someone else can say?).

You haven't said what size tyres you have.. but my Yokohama (17") retail at around £80. a corner ( i got mine cheaper as i work in the trade :))

Try mytyres or blackcircles for online prices.. seem quite competative.

I've got the standard 185/55/15 on front & 205/50/15 on rear with the suggested 26-28psi on front & 32psi on rear.

Pirelli P6000 all round, which have all got plenty of life in them, so although I'd love to change the alloys and go bigger it seems a waste of the good tyres.

When I eventually change them all I'd prefer the Yokos A043 as they seem to be the most suited for drive according to all you lovely people, so I guess around £80 each ain't too bad.

Cheers for all the advice, will do the lottery this weekend!!!!

I've got Toyo Proxes T1R's on mine since I had my new wheels and they seem really good especially in the wet where I found the stock Yoko's a bit lacking.
