ahhh yes - the austrailian anti-smoking campaign...

using humour to get its message across - much better than the woman sat their complaning adverts over here you either ignore or turn off...

I disagree fidgits. I think the shocking adverts are much better at getting the message over. Such as the site of all the fat being pushed out of the artery or the people discussing the impact on their families.

I don't think it is possible to take the message seriously when it is put across in a joke.

as an ex-smoker - i can say hand on heart, not a single TV ad shown in this country when I was a smoker (or since) had any effect, other than me changing channels or ignoring it...

Something like that - i would've watched.. and while the 'shock' isnt there, the sutble message would've gotten across a lot more effectively IMO.

its the same for the drink driving adverts (not that i drink and drive), they shock the first time you see them, but then as they start, I turn over or just tune the TV out...
