:D Hi all, ,my brakes are badly worn so can anyone tell me how to remove the front calipers on a 2000 1.8 gls non vvti?, i can get as far as removeing the guide pins but dont know how to remove the metal thing that runs down from the top of the caliper to the bottom, this prevents me from pulling the caliper off. Also do i have to grease the guide pins with the copper stuff, im not sure as the pins and rubbers are different from every other pins ive came across in the past, thx for all your help its much appreciated, TRIGGER :D

ASSUMING THEY ARE THE SAME AS THE 1.8 2000

If you have removed the guide pins (using a 7mm Allen Key or equiv.) the only thing keeping the calipers on is friction. A long screwdriver is a good lever. There will also be a 'lip' on the outer edge of the disc (caused by wear) which will be stopping things falling away.

By 'metal thing' do you mean the wire coil? This is just prised out.

If you are looking to remove the caliper cage as well there are two 19mm bolts on the inboard face of the hub assembly. Unbolding these usually helps free the brake caliper.

If you've read the forums you will note that most owners avoid fitting genuine Toyota pads as these seem to be responsible for brake judder.

I fitted Mintex pads recently and they cured the problem for me after they bedded in. I greased the pins with copper grease.

Note: the calipers may be a bit stiff and will need spreading to allow the thicker pads. I bought one of these and after using it I can't believe that I did without one for so long:
