Dumb Pre-owner Question About Dump Valve

Hi

My new Gen 5 GT4 is nearly in my hands, tomorrow I'm selling my old MR2 then I need to start looking for a nice condition GT4 :D

This question is pretty stupid I guess but do GT4 185 have dump valves as standard?

And also what is the difference between a dump valve and a blow off valve?

Cheers

No. There are no dump valves fitted as standard on the Gen 5. Dump valve, blow off valve, DV, BOV. All the same thing. It`s a device to vent off excess boost theoretically to avoid the possibility of the turbo stalling.

If you want to fit one to a gen 5, then the best type is the twin piston DV. As single piston ones may cause engine stalling problems. Although i`ve never experienced this problem myself. . . . . . Yet

Hope this helps.

I thought it does have a BOV as standard .. it's just a recirculating one (no sound).

The Same gen engine in the MR2 does.

This can be swapped for one that makes a noise ..

Nope. There is positively absolutely NO DV fitted to the ST185 as standard. Reciculating or otherwise. It`s the rev2 engine if that helps. Don`t know about that fitment to the MR but definately not in the GT4. They introduced the pedestrian friendly recirculating DV to the ST205 (rev 3 engine):thumbsup:

I don`t know the reason they didn`t fit one. Perhaps it`s because they only push low boost (8psi) standard???????
