My wife's 4d Rav4 has the arial sticking up at the back of the roof so that, unless it is stuck down with tape, catches in some automatic garage doors.

Does anyone know of an alternative and some sort of blanking plate for the subsequent hole in the roof?

Actually thought arials were stone age and that most were now incorporated in the rear window.

Thanks

I have seen the 'Shark Fin' type arial on eBay. the one fitted to most BMW.... This eliminates the stick part.. but have never found any one else who has fiited one to the RAV or Toyota....Maybe another member has experiance of these....

Two choices open to you, 1) you can unscrew it (this i'm sure can be rather inconvenient)...or 2) have a look on eBay for a shorter version made of aluminium ( tap in "bee sting aerial" ), the only down side of the shorter aerials is it could affect radio reception.

I believe Halfords do a stubby bee sting aerial which is a direct replacement for the Toyota one - it's about half the length. My cousin bought one for her Corolla Verso. She paid £15 for it, and so far hasn't noticed any loss in quality of radio reception.

Thanks for the info. Can't see any arials on Halford's web site though :-(

searching Halfords website for "beesting" shows 2 results, both are £19.99 and look as though they are adjustable in length too. Probably best going to have a look before buying one to make sure they are suitable.

Cheers,

You are right the aerial is vulnerable, I cured my problem Toyota Granite I brought a stubby aerial on eBay £9 works well and is about 3 inches in lenght.

Short beesting will only work in strong reception area. I tried one it was useless where I live.

I have cut the gently curved plastic handle from a toothbrush and black taped it to the rubber part of the standrad aerial curving it and bringing the tip down enough to clear the garage door. There is no effect on reception and it's invisible unless you look really closely!

Only temporary until I think of something better - but lasted 6 months so far!

I guess the shark fin has to be the best idea but means removing headlining etc to fit.
