Corolla Gear Change

Re-send - hoping for a re-assuring reply

Recently bought a 2.5 year old Corolla T3 1.6 Hatchback - love

it very much indeed even after a lifetime driving and owning

VW Golfs....This car has only done 15 K miles

My gear change is rather disappointing - quite"crunchy" at times

Seems worst 3/4 or 4/5 gear change.

I did ask the service chap to try it but gave me the impresion

that it was faily normal for cable "driven" gear box..

I have done a forum search with no hits.

Is it a known problem that possibly requires a manufactures update.

Thanks in advance

I'm often having probs with changing from 1st -2nd gear, but mainly from crunching gears and not pushing the clutch down far enough

Otherwise, it's fairly an ok gearbox and change.

i normal dont have this problem but tonight when i was showing a saxo vtr or vts with loud exhurst who the boss's are i couldn't get in second gear !!!!! :P rather then force and cruching my second gear i just let him go and select second gear again comfortably he must think he done me and telling his friend's all about it . :D

ps:before this happen i already make him look stupid about 3 times. :P :D :D

hi man-bing

i had a 200gb harddisk fitted in the car which is a lot more covenient then any dvd player no changing disc's,no disc jumping you can store loads of dvd's,mp3 etc... if you havn't fitted a dvd player yet you might want to go for harddisk instant, since i got this i havn't touch my dvd player for almost 3 week's it just too much hassle inserting disc in player not to mention carrying all these dvd's in the car with me. :blink:all i need now is a toilet and a kitchen and i will be able to live in my car. :D

I'm sitting on the fence about having HD in cars, as much as i like the idea, it would be something i would need to keep updated about once a month.

It only took me about 10yrs to get a changer installed, as i was always for having single CD's H/U, but i think i will be looking at a DVD changer next, but not something i'm fussed with at the moment.

Besides, if i have that many disks in the car, i will be willing to take them home each night.

i still have a 10 disc's cd changer in the car other than minidisc(MD) there aren't any music format player available in car can match the sound of good old compact disc (CD). :)

when you say you need to updated once a month do you mean putting new mp3 song's or movie's etc... in the harddisk?

to update info in this harddisk unit is a piece of cake, all you need is to plug lead into the usb socket and drop anything you want from your computer into it just like you would to a memory card mp3 player, it will play everything avi,mpg,divx,etc.... format's is amzing , i also take the harddisk unit home with me to use at home aswell as in car , this unit has made my home and car dvd player's redundant but if is not your thing then so be it there is nothing wrong with dvd player's or changer go for it  :) .

  • 1 year later...

common prob with car - upgraded patrs available throurh warranty to sort this out. try shift cables first as i had similair prob and that sorted it - there are clutch and box issues but the crunching gear is will be the cables. the only problem i foumd was as one prob was sorted it emphasised another - british built toyotas!

hi was just going through forum and read your message, in actual fact when i bought mine they were like that at the start and all of a sudden they went really soft until one day i could only shift to 3rd or 4th...i would suggest that you check you gear linkage cables, open your bonnet should be behind the engine at the bottom in the middle just check that the linkages dont have a crack in them anywhere..if this is not the case then would suggest you get it checked out..

thanks

the shift cables got moddified - i believe they shortened them slightly. you arent gonna notice anything visually.
